Have you ever dreamed of a romantic getaway to a medieval castle? Then Le Donjon is the perfect destination for you! This charming, independent stay used to be the residence of the lord and his family and was part of the beautiful Château de la Preuille. Now fully restored, it offers a spectacular view of the castle and its moat.

Le Donjon is equipped with everything you need for a successful stay. On the ground floor, you will find a comfortable living room with a fully equipped kitchen, perfect for preparing a romantic dinner for two. Upstairs is a bedroom with a king-size bed and a bathroom with shower and toilet. Upon arrival, the bed is already made, so you can relax and enjoy your holiday right away.

As the icing on the cake, Le Donjon offers a fairytale view of the castle's moat. You can even grill outside and enjoy the beautiful scenery while dining under the starry sky. WiFi is available throughout the property, so you can always stay connected to the world.

Le Donjon is suitable for couples looking for a romantic getaway and accommodates up to two people. Please note that it is not suitable for disabled or handicapped individuals. Children under 2 years old are welcome, and we provide a baby cot.

Note: In July and August, the minimum stay is 1 week at Le Donjon with arrival on Saturday. Outside of this period, the minimum stay is 1 night with arrival on any day of the week.

This castle is considered one of the oldest in the Loire Valley and is a true gem that you cannot miss. With its fortified feudal residence, moat, and towers, it is a perfect place to immerse yourself in medieval history.

In addition to the historical charm of the castle, the Vendée region also offers an oceanic climate and the most sunshine hours in France, making it an ideal holiday destination. And there is so much to do! Discover the nearby city of Nantes, enjoy a relaxing day at the beach, or go to the adventurous theme park "Puy du Fou".

The 36m2 cozy holiday tower includes:

Living room with seating area and dining table;
Open kitchen with fridge-freezer, dishwasher, oven, and coffee machine;
Beautiful view of the castle moat;
Bathroom with shower and toilet;
Bedroom with a comfortable double bed;
For 1 or 2 people plus children up to 2 years old;
WiFi;
Terrace with BBQ.

Rent includes:

Beds made upon arrival plus first necessities for the kitchen and toilet;
We clean the Donjon after departure, but we do expect you to leave the tower swept clean.
Deposit of 200 €, returned at the end of the stay (cheque or cash).

Arrival between 5 pm & 8 pm, departure around 10 am. We will do our best to be flexible. Just let us know.

A little bit of history:

The original castle dates back to the 11th century; its present form dates from the 13th and 15th century. The castle originally had four towers. One tower was destroyed during the Revolution, the debris was later used to fill the moat. This tower was part of Château de la Preuille and served as a residence for the lord of the castle and his family. After weeks of work, and there is still work in progress you can now reserve this medieval tower for this summer.

Discover the unspoiled nature surrounding our castle, surrounded by 8 hectares of rolling vineyards. A unique location where you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the French countryside while still being close to everything.

But what really makes this region special? The vibrant Nantes, known for its creativity and innovation, has a hidden gem called Les Machines de l'Ile. Here you will find beautiful machines and creations based on the stories of Jules Verne, including a 12-meter-high elephant and a carousel with an incredible underwater world decor. An experience you won't soon forget!

Just 40 km away from our castle, you will find the second largest theme park in France, Puy du Fou. Here, you can experience 26 historical shows daily that feel like watching a Hollywood movie. In between, you can stroll through the various villages and score fun souvenirs. A fantastic day out for every age, and especially unique because the park's theme perfectly matches the history of our castle.

And what about the endless beaches just 70 km from our castle? From Plage Pornic in the north to Les Sables d'Olonne in the south, you'll find the widest and most beautiful beaches in France. Additionally, this region has the most sunshine hours per day in all of France, earning it the nickname "Côte Lumière." An ideal destination for a day out in the sun!

But there is still so much more to discover in our area. Hidden shops, cozy bars and restaurants, and a sports hall in an old warehouse. Or take a stroll along the Loire river and admire the unique details in the city. Don't forget to visit the fifteenth-century Château des Ducs de Bretagne, with the only giant slide on the outside of a castle in the world!
