My beautiful restored Merchant’s townhouse has 5 spacious suites, 3 studio apartments, 2 one bedroom duplex villas and is the result of a loving restoration in the heart of Porto’s old down in a quiet cobbled street running parallel to the square of Porto town hall.

Behind the traditional tiled façade is a modern architectural gem, created around an atrium that floods the building with natural light. The property is filled with custom-made furniture, original art, premium appliances and fun gadgets.

Operated as one of Porto’s most successful Guest Houses, and consistently in the top 3 on various review platforms and Traveller’s Choice winner year on year, Canto de Luz is also available for exclusive occupation, when the whole space becomes yours to welcome friends and families or work colleagues travelling together as a private maison.

Please note that our exclusive occupation does not include the use of the main kitchen due to Portuguese health and safety requirements. You are welcome to use the kitchenettes in our Urban Retreats to prepare small meals for those staying in those rooms, else our Private chef will be happy to cater for you and serve your group in our Beautiful Orangerie.

Our rate includes Daily HouseKeeping service and Breakfast served at your table each day.

Our breakfasts have become the stuff of legend. They change daily according to the season and produce available in our local markets – always homemade with love.
Ideal for those who want a relaxing and luxurious place to stay which is a world apart from the chain hotels and poor quality accommodation otherwise available.

The hotel boasts a heated saltwater pool which is open from 09:30 to 20:30 daily.

Note : In the grounds of the Maison is our two bedroom Villa Almada which is also available for rent but is NOT included in the whole house booking. Guests access the villa via the main Kitchen and Orangerie through the main house garden. You can see and book the Villa separately to create a 12 bedroom stay. Just ask for details

• We are lucky to be surrounded by great shops, amazing restaurants to suit every taste, quirky antique and vintage shops
• Excellent supermarket, bike rental, cafes, bakery, fromagerie (cheese shop) and Vinoteca (Portuguese wine shops) are all 2 mins walk
