About this property

Historic 4 bedroom Lake District house with stunning views

A superbly equipped historic property with stunning open countryside views across the beautiful gardens and the River Kent to the Helm where an Iron Age fort existed. Part of a large Victorian country manor house built in the 1850's, this house combines original period charm (fireplaces, mantles, cornicing, chandeliers and much more) with modern conveniences (high end appliances, new kitchen & bathrooms). Your whole group will be comfortable in this extremely spacious peaceful and unique house.

Where will you sleep? This house has four bedrooms, each with lovely views of countryside or the old Victorian manor house. There are four full bathrooms, two en suite. One bedroom can be made up as a two twins or a zip-linked super-king. The 3rd floor is a private oasis of bed/bath (the bathroom was made out of the original thick, slate water tank for the whole house). Period features such as fireplaces in every room abound juxtaposed with John Lewis mattresses, high quality bedding, thick fluffy towels.

Where will you socialize? There are two sitting rooms, one huge with original marble fireplace, period chandelier, giant windows with stunning views. One smaller, beautifully decorated "ladies' sitting room" is a charming, calm oasis with steps out to the truly special garden.

An eat-in kitchen has all the appliances (two dishwashers!) and extras you could want (including a steam oven). John Lewis white on white dinnerware. There is a formal dining table in the large sitting room too.

Conservatory: A cosy conservatory at the front of the house provides another tranquil seating area, along with a washer/dryer and super views of the historic house as a whole.

Parking: Ample space for up to four cars right in front of the house.

Gardens: Three tiers of garden provide three terraces, stunning views from all of them, privacy, comfort, wildlife and peace. Grassy field area. Drystone walls, raised flower-beds, bird-stations. Herb gardens and small orchard (help yourself!).

Convenience: Close to all attractions and an ideal base for the lakes and the Yorkshire dales. A few minutes from Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall. A beautiful 20-minute walk to the Sizergh castle barn (restaurant and farm shop).

Comfort: This is an allergy-friendly house, where no harsh chemicals or fragrances are used in the cleaning products and a thorough, hygienic high pressure steam cleaning and sanitizing is done between guests. We supply natural unscented washing powder and fabric conditioner, washing up liquid and soap for guests. Air purifiers are provided for every bedroom, and air conditioners can be made available, one on each level. The pretty conservatory provides an alternative sitting area to the garden, for those with outdoor allergies. The main level is all tile and original wood flooring and shutters, without carpets or curtains.

Train:~10 minutes from mainline train station or M6 motorway. London in under 3 hours (train). Liverpool or Manchester in 90 minutes (car).

Beautiful historic home!
Truly enjoyed our stay at this property -the team was great to work with! Lots to see and do in the area. It was my first experience with a rental property and I couldn’t have asked for a better place! Highly recommend staying here!

We love living in the Lake District, and miss it. We're working/studying away for a couple of years. Our house manual is a labour of love, and includes all our local favourites from the foodie-heavens, to the mountain hikes, to the NT properties. We'll be happy to answer any questions and help you with an itinerary if you'd like! Our house manager (Penny) who looks after things while we are away is also a licensed massage therapist who gives our guests a great discount. This is a photo of our daughter at a tiny tea shop in Kendal that dates back to the 1600's (amazing salads!) Ten minutes from the house, door to door (parking in the Brewery Arts Center car park).

Why they chose this property

No-one has ever stepped into the top level of the garden, or looked out of the windows overlooking it, without commenting on the stunning views. It's an oasis of beauty ,whatever the season. It's also an extremely convenient place to stay (12 minutes from the mainline station, 10 minutes from the M6), within easy reach of all the Lakes attractions as well as the Yorkshire Dales. There is plenty of space for larger families, or two families sharing (four bedrooms, four bathrooms, two sitting rooms on the ground floor, with multiple spaces on the middle floor for sitting with a book. It's also allergy-friendly with no harsh chemicals or fragrances used (steam-disinfected) with the highest quality beds and bedding, and a very well equipped kitchen.
