About this property
Stunning Family Cottage With Garden On The Seafront
Swallow Cottage is luxurious 3 bedroom seafront stone/wood house with fantastic sea views from every room. The house is 15 metres from the sea with views of Galway, Connemara and the Aran Islands.
It is situated on the spectacularly beautiful Flaggy Shore, a national heritage site and one of the loveliest parts of the 'Wild Atlantic Way'. The spacious open living area has underfloor heating throughout the kitchen, dining room, the two bathrooms and lounge which also has a wood burning stove.
Our beautiful home has large french window/glass doors in every room with stunning sea views that open out into the garden just metres away from the ocean. Perfect to watch seals and dolphins in the bay and spectacular sunsets of Galway Bay with your BBQ.
Step outside the garden gate and a lovely sandy beach faces you. There are several family friendly sandy beaches in the area. A short walk along the coast is the highly rated seafront Linnanes Lobster Bar/Restaurant which serves deliciously fresh locally caught seafood and a great pint of Guinness. The local fisherman's wife sells fresh fish on the harbour just outside Linnanes.
General information. Swallow Cottage is located in the spectacular area of Ireland known as the Burren (irish meaning Great Rock) which is one of the finest examples of glacio limestone landscapes in the world. Formed 350 million years ago, the region is rich with historical and archeological sites. There are more than 90 megalithic tombs, dolmens older than 5600 years and ring forts including the exceptionally well preserved Caherconnell Stone Fort. It is also renowned world-wide for its remarkable diversity of plants and animals.
The Cliffs of Moher is one of the most popular attractions of the area as are the Aillwee Caves, the most famous of the many thousands of ancient caves beneath the limestone mountains.
The Burren also has a long history of traditional Irish music which is played in many of the pubs throughout the area particularly in Doolin.
Swallow Cottage is midway (15 minutes drive) between the lovely coastal villages of Kinvarra, Co. Galway and Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare. Both offer a great choice in shops, restaurants, pubs and farmers markets selling locally produced produce.
The area has several excellent golf courses including the world famous Lahinch links course.

Frequently asked questions
About the host
Hosted by Robert MacIver

My wife is an artist from the area and loved the unique location and wanted to live there since she was a child. We finally built our home in 2004. We decided to rent to holiday visitors because we felt it was a waste to have such a beautiful home empty for most of the year.
Why they chose this property
Our house is a traditional stone cottage but is architecturally designed to have all the mod cons including underfloor heating as well as a wood burning stove. It has a top quality kitchen and furnishings. It is on the seafront with a safe walled garden and very short walk to a sandy beach, an art gallery and renowned seafood restaurant/pub.
What makes this property unique
The stunning location overlooking Galway Bay. The house is near some fantastic coastal walks, beaches, prehistoric sites, castles and some of the world's finest golf courses.
