Cave del Predil is famous for its beautiful lake with crystal-clear waters, set against a picturesque landscape. The lake (a 1-km drive from the lodging) is also the subject of a curious legend, according to which a small town once stood where the lake now lies. According to the storey, the town was flooded because of the cold and unfeeling hearts of its inhabitants, who refused to take in a woman and her child (the Virgin Mary and the infant Jesus), who eventually found shelter at the home of a kind-hearted family. It is said that the ruins of the small house on the lake’s islet are those of the only house that survived the flood that punished the inhabitants—namely, the very house belonging to the family in the storey, which was spared.
In Cave del Predil, you can also visit the Museum Complex, which combines the Historical Military Museum of the Julian Alps with the International Geomining Park—created after mining operations ceased to make the site accessible to visitors—and the Museum of Mining Traditions, Miniera Lab, which complements the mine tour with a documentary exhibition.
A supermarket, a café, and a restaurant/pizzeria are located 500 metres away.
From Tarvisio, you can easily reach the ALPE ADRIA bike path, used by thousands of cycling tourists to reach Villach, Kranjska Gora, and the beautiful Adriatic coast of Grado, passing through Aquileia, the second-largest city of the Roman Empire.
