About this property
Honeysuckle Cottage - sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms
Constructed from the local mellow-hued Cotswold stone, Honeysuckle Cottage forms part of a peaceful terrace of cottages, that was once home to farmworkers. To the front of the cottage are hedge-lined fields and to the rear, far-reaching views of the Cotswolds. This is an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and it's not uncommon to see herds of deer in the field beyond the rear garden, as well as birds of prey in the skies above.
Honeysuckle is a traditional stone cottage that is filled with character and charm and retains many original features including fabulous deep-set stone mullioned windows with window seats, stone fireplaces, and exposed stone walls. Its elevated location means it has been built over three levels. You enter on the ground floor into an inviting, light-filled living room with a wood-burning stove, the bathroom is also on this floor. Down on the lower ground floor, you'll find a cosy dining room with the original flagstone floor and a well-equipped kitchen. There is also a door to the rear garden.
The views from the rear of Honeysuckle are just wonderful and the pretty rear garden is filled with roses, shrubs and plants and laid to decking. This steps gradually down to a seating area with a four-seater table at the end. The field beyond the garden often plays host to a herd of deer and the sound of birdsong fills the air.
Ground Floor
Living Room:
As you step through the front door you are greeted by a warm and cosy living room with exposed stone walls and a wood-burning stove. A pair of comfy two-seater sofas with cushions and throws provide ample seating for four guests. The wall-mounted Smart TV has a built-in DVD player and the wooden door behind the TV holds plenty of board games and DVDs for fun evenings in. The traditional deep-set stone window and cushioned window seat have been retained and remain as a beautiful original feature. There's also a wooden bookcase packed with novels and non-fiction books along with plenty of maps and guidebooks to help you make the most of your time in the Cotswolds.
Bathroom / Shower Room:
The compact family bathroom has a roll-top bath with rainfall shower over and is fully tiled. The Victorian-style suite has a traditional high-level cistern with a pull flush and handbasin, there's also a shaver point. The bathroom window looks out over the wonderful views to the rear, this is most definitely a loo with a view!
Lower Ground Floor
From the living room, there is a staircase to the lower ground floor with access to the rear garden, dining room and kitchen.
Dining Room:
The character-filled dining room lends itself perfectly to leisurely meals and cosy, sociable evenings. On the floor are the original flagstones and there's a huge stone feature fireplace (not in use) along with a window and window seat that looks out to the rear garden. The wooden dining table seats four comfortably, and there's also a wooden console table and a sizeable wine rack, but you will need to bring your own wine! The understairs storage cupboard houses the cordless vacuum cleaner, washing machine.
Kitchen:
Beyond the dining room is the compact but well-equipped kitchen. Pale wood-effect cupboards contrast beautifully with the midnight blue tiles, and you'll find plenty of crockery, dishes and pot and pans, everything in fact that you need for a self-catering holiday including a slimline dishwasher. Although the kitchen is on the lower ground floor there is a sun tube that lets natural daylight in.
First Floor
From the ground floor, there are stairs to the first floor.
Bedroom One:
This spacious, airy bedroom is at the front of the cottage and features a king-sized bed (can be made up as twin beds on request), bedside tables with reading lamps and plenty of clothes storage with a chest of drawers and a wardrobe.
Bedroom Two:
This pretty bedroom has wonderful far-reaching views over the countryside to the rear of the cottage. There's a wooden king-size bed with bedside tables and reading lamps on either side. This room is cosy and characterful with the bedroom wall revealing the original cottage beams.
Outside
The rear of Honeysuckle Cottage is laid to decking and filled with beautiful mature planting and shrubs, there's a fabulous bush fuchsia and a rambling rose climbs over the backdoor. The decking steps gently down to a seating area at the end with a table and four chairs and the most wonderful rural views. Linger with your morning coffee and watch the herd of deer in the field beyond, enjoy al fresco dining or peaceful evening drinks as the sky overhead fills with stars.
