About this property
Period cottage in idyllic riverside location in prime Cotswolds village
Step back in time in this period cottage in a beautifully preserved Cotswolds village. Riverside Cottage is a classic stone village house in Lower Slaughter, one of the most sought after villages in the Cotswolds. Lower Slaughter was the location for the recently released adaptation of Jane Austen's "Emma" and you will recognise the bridge in front of the cottage. Built in the 19th century, the cottage has an unrivalled position in the heart of the village, being situated right by the river Eye and south facing. The village itself is unspoilt, being a conservation area and there has been little or no development in over 30 years. You will see from the many old photographs of the house on our walls that very little has changed in 100 years. There is no better place to enjoy the evening sun than strolling around this village, with the gentle lapping of the river.
Riverside retains many of its original features such as beautiful open fireplaces, beams and wooden floors. The kitchen and bathroom are equipped in traditional style - there is an everhot cooker and heritage bathroom fittings.
The cottage was purchased in October 2018 and has only been prepared for rental in early 2019 with lots of new equipment. There is an emphasis on luxury at the cottage with all beds benefitting from 100% pure goose down duvets and pillows and White Company bedlinen and towels. New Boleslawiec crockery has been provided to add to the cottage feel and Arthur Price cutlery.
There are 36 inch new TV's with built in DVD players in the living room and both bedrooms. Unusually for a holiday rental, the living room TV additionally has a SKY connection with the Entertainments and Sports packages. A good wifi also allows for netflix movies to be downloaded.
There are two quality hotels in the village which offer high class dining - and a bar in the Slaughters' Inn. Stow on the Wold and Bourton on the Water are only 2-3 miles away and provide ample shopping and further eating as well as take-away choices. The Lords of the Manor Hotel at Upper Slaughter can be reached via a delightful walk across the fields.
There is a wealth of interesting attractions in surrounding towns and villages including the mill museum in the village, Snowshill Manor, Batsford Arboretum and Sezincote House to name a few. For animal fans, the Farm Park at Naunton or the Cotswolds Wildlife Park at Burford make pleasant afternoon excursions. Cirencester and Cheltenham are also within 20 miles.
We enjoy many walks in the area but particularly like walks to Belas Knap long barrow and a deserted Roman villa off the beaten track.
Please feel free to call me on +447767 368697 if you would like to hear more about the property.

About the host
Hosted by Sophie Quina

My husband and I are both finance directors and own two holiday properties - Riverside and also a house just outside Seillans in the South of France (which is also advertised on HomeAway and has been let for holidays for many years). We have three grown up children and live in Suffolk and London.
We have owned property in Lower Slaughter since 1992 and have an enduring love of the village. We sold our first house in 2000 but missed the village so much that we bought another house in 2008 - the house next door to Riverside, which is currently let on a longer term basis.
It has played a large role in our life - all our children were born while we had a weekend house in the village and some of our happiest memories were spent here. Our children spent many happy afternoons wading in the river to catch crayfish and we loved local walks before Sunday lunch and a cup of tea in front of n open fire.
We intend to retire to Lower Slaughter one day.

Why they chose this property
Lower Slaughter is most definitely one of the most beautiful villages in the country and the river front is simply glorious. This house is located in an unrivalled position in the heart of the village with lovely views over the river - and is a delight to walk to in the early evening. It is the only property in the village by the river which is currently available for holiday rentals. If you want a Cotswolds and old English cottage experience, it doesn't get better than this.
