About this property
Host & Stay | Oyster Cottage
Summary:
Oyster Cottage is located near Whitby town centre and within walking distance of Whitby beach, making it an ideal place to stay. It is both stylish and comfortable offering modern fixtures and fittings, providing the perfect accommodation for you and your guests during your stay on the Yorkshire coast.
The Space:
Upon entering Oyster Cottage, you’ll instantly feel at home. This upside-down house has an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area exclusively on the top floor, with the three bedrooms being situated on the ground and first floors.
The living area features a comfy large sofa so you can relax during your stay. The decor only adds to the cosy feel of this property with a warming pine green wall, as well as white walls to allow enough light to remain in the room. Get settled in front of the 50-inch flat screen Smart TV to enjoy a cosy night in with your loved ones. Complementary NOW TV and Netflix subscriptions are provided. What's more, you'll also have access to a Juliet balcony.
Oyster Cottage is fully equipped for your self-catering stay. The modern and stylish kitchen features a Nespresso coffee machine, fridge, dishwasher, oven, hob, kettle, microwave and toaster, along with a washer/dryer.
A dining table can be found between the kitchen and living area.
Head downstairs and you’ll be taken to the first two bedrooms in the property. Both the king-size room and the bunk room are cosy spaces, once again immaculately furnished. You’ll enjoy your sleep in either of these rooms with the plush bedding and premium linens provided for you. The king-size bed can be split to create two singles if this suits your guests.
The family bathroom is also on the first floor and it features a bathtub with an overhead shower, a toilet and a wash basin.
On the ground floor you’ll find yet another bedroom with a king-size bed. Guests using this bedroom will also find a second bathroom across the hallway. This features a shower, toilet and wash basin.
Head outside and you’ll find even more space - that’s what makes Oyster Cottage so great. There is ample seating for you and your guests, as well as room for children to enjoy themselves whilst their parents relax in this enclosed space.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the full property.
The keys to Oyster Cottage are accessed via a secure key safe and full details will be provided shortly before your arrival date.
Please note that there are 35 external steps to access the property.
Oyster Cottage offers quite a rare thing so close to the centre of Whitby - a private on-site parking space (number 13). It’s the first one under the block of flats at the front of the development (as you look at it from the left-hand side). Guests may find that the best way to park there is to approach from the far end of Broomfield Terrace (turn in near the mini-roundabout at the top of Bagdale), drive down to the end, and then reverse in. There is also a permit for use at West Cliff car park, YO21 3EG. This is a (pleasant) 10 to 15 minute walk from Oyster Cottage – it is the nearest car park that a permit can be bought for. The permit must be clearly displayed in the car at all times. There is no guarantee of a parking spot – it is subject to availability at the relevant time. Guests can unload at the property and then drive to the car park if needed. If guests use this permit, please make sure to return it to Oyster Cottage afterwards. There are also various pay and display public car parks in the area, such as the train station and the big ones behind the Co-op. This is the most straightforward option if you do not want to walk to West Cliff or if that car park is full.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome to stay at Oyster Cottage per reservation.
The Neighborhood:
Set on the West side of Whitby, Oyster Cottage is just a short 6-minute walk into the centre of town. Head to Pier Road and you’ll find cosy pubs, fun arcades and plenty of fish restaurants. Continue along the lively road until you reach the beautiful, blue flag West Cliff Beach which is lined with idyllic beach huts. At the other end of Pier Road, you’ll notice the swing bridge which sits over the River Esk.
Over the bridge, you’ll find yourself on the East bank which is full of narrow medieval streets dotted with boutiques, pubs and fish restaurants. Climb the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary. You can also discover the renowned ruined Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel ‘Dracula’.
Step outside of Whitby and you’ll uncover a haven of woodland and moorland. Whitby forms part of the North York Moors National Park so it’s the perfect place for long walks.
Getting Around:
Whitby train station is less than half a mile away so villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station.
There are plenty of bus routes throughout Whitby. Hop on the X4 and you can visit beautiful coastal villages like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes. The X93 travels along the coast to Scarborough. The 95 route features plenty of quaint villages, such as Grosmont and Lealholm.
Interaction with Guests:
We’re always available for our guests so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
