About this property

FAMILY PERFECT! Walk barefoot from lawn to beach to warm water

She's a Brick Lake House is a spacious, stately home in a secluded cove on the private side of Lake Anna. The house is just steps from the water in a quiet cove with 150 feet of waterfront and a sandy bottom with a gentle slope.
Have a peaceful morning coffee on the deck facing the water, watching the wildlife, from herons, eagles, and osprey to bass splashing in the water. Watch spectacular sunsets over the water while sitting at the fire pit toasting marshmallows with your favorite beverage. You can fish from the dock. Try out the kayaks and paddle boards where the sandy shore makes it easy to launch and return.
Enjoy the serenity as you leave the rest of the world behind.
We love to see generations come together to make family memories here. The house makes a great getaway for friends or a business retreat.
We're a Mom and Pop operation. This is our home. With linens and cleaning services, we keep up with the house ourselves. No "glossed over" servicing by big management companies. No AI responses to your questions. We're usually available to respond or take care of concerns ourselves. We are often at our place nearby.
The house has 5 bedrooms. There's a master bedroom on the main floor and 4 more bedrooms below where you can walk out the back door, facing the water. Sleeping arrangements work best for 4 to 5 couples and there are 3 bunk beds to accommodate 6 kids. The 2 large master suites have water views. There are 4 baths and a powder room. There are 3 large, tiled showers, a big jetted tub, and a standard tub.
We have dining seating and place settings for up to 16. The kitchen has 2 connected rectangular tables, seating 8 and the round dining room table seats 8. While there are no doors, they are separated by the family room. Because the long rectangular kitchen table is actually 2 tables, it allows flexibility to create smaller group settings or to move closer to the dining area for a combined dining experience. There is a table with 3 additional chairs, the same as the kitchen set downstairs that act as a work area.
Our linen service provides freshly laundered sheets that are folded, wrapped, and waiting for you on each bed. Plush, clean towels are folded in bathroom under-sink cabinets.
Our cleaning service makes sure that the house is clean and sanitized between bookings. We conduct walk-throughs, ourselves, to ensure that the house is clean, stocked and in-order.
The large, well-appointed, and well-stocked kitchen has Corian counters, extra tall solid hickory cabinets, an island with a cooktop, double ovens, and plenty of prep room. You will have plenty of cookware, serving pieces, plates, utensils, and glasses for meals. We have both Keurig and Mr. Coffee and just about all other appliances that make for an equipped kitchen. There's a second fridge in the laundry room and a third in the bar downstairs.
Both the breakfast table and the dining room table seat 8 and face the lake. Downstairs, the bar doubles as a second kitchen. It has a fridge, sink, cooktop, microwave, toaster oven, and a coffee machine. On the deck, there is a table seating 6, and 2 chaise lounges. On the side deck outside of the kitchen are both a propane and charcoal grill. Under the deck is another patio table for 6, a picnic table, a bench, and a selection of lightweight chairs to use in the yard.
New this year, an outdoor showerhead to rinse off before you go back in.
The fire pit by the water is surrounded by Adirondack chairs in a soft frame of rubber mulch.
We have 4 kayaks and 4 paddleboards . They stay on the lawn on a rack. An aluminum rowboat rests near the water. A selection of life vests is in a large bin under the deck.
We welcome everyone seeking a lake getaway. The house design is perfect for a 3 generation family vacation. We have 5 bedrooms with 2 Kings, 2 queens, 3 bunk beds, and 2 convertible full beds. It comfortably accommodates up to 11 adults or 8 adults and up to 6 small children. We have a Pack and Play infant bed, a highchair, and a booster seat.
With almost 5,000 square feet of living space, the house is designed for entertaining. It has the feel of a bygone era when things were built to last. It has a solid and custom architectural design that includes high ceilings and arches. There is a formal billiard room, a butler’s pantry, a wet bar and lounge and an air hockey table. Cabinets (in the bar) are filled with board games and puzzles. The shelves below 2 TVs are filled with DVDs. The one-of-a-kind table lamps and other are thanks to the creativity of our dear brother(-in-law).
Direct TV is included.
We have free Wi-Fi. It’s "point to point" not as fast as back home, but it’s the best they have in the area.
She's A Brick Lake House at Lake Anna lets you get away from it all, away from crowds, away from the stress of daily living. You come in through the woods and reach the house, where it opens up to lawn and open water. The private side of the lake has must less boat traffic. In rural Louisa County, in Central Virginia, it is safe and quiet. Explore the lake, fish or swim. Explore Central Virginia, that has so much so offer, from Richmond and Charlottesville to Fredricksburg, all about an hour's drive. For day trips, you can also explore Historic sites and museums and recreational attractions. There's shopping, to fine dining and social destinations. Wineries, cideries, breweries, and live music can be found within a half hour. There are about a dozen restaurants within 10 miles. Food Lion is 9 miles away. And Dollar General and 2 country stores are 2-3 miles away.
If you bring a boat, there is a launch three lots down. When you let us know that you are coming with a boat, we will give you the information to enter the launch site.
We live nearby. We’re often available to answer questions and help with unexpected situations. And if you see someone waving by boat, it might be us.
Guests who come to our Brick Lake House discover a getaway where they finally get to decompress from the stresses of the real world, rekindle friend or family relationships and create great memories. We invite you to enjoy all that it has to offer. As many of our guests will tell you, you'll want to come back year after year.
Please feel free to message us with any questions about the property.
When you get here, your door code will be the last four digits of the phone number that you provided.
Message us if you'd like ideas for a packing list, amenities around the area. We have a House Book on the coffee table with information about the house, restaurants, emergency information.
• You can also book together with the house next door, if you have a larger group. Together, we can accommodate a total of 24 guests. You’ll need to inquire with at least 6 months of advance notice. Check out Heron's Cove # 620039.

Family New Years at Lake Anna
Three families from PA, MD and GA came together at this home for a reunion and to ring in the New Year. The location is beautiful with clear views of the lake from the house. We really enjoyed sitting around the fire pit by the water in the evening (firewood was supplied!). There was plenty of room for parking and easy access to enter the home at check-in. The home very spacious and most notably had a very large well-stocked kitchen. This was the best stocked kitchen in a Vrbo we have ever stayed in! There is a double oven, plenty of dishes, cookware, bakeware, and even a full size mixer. The home also has three full size refrigerators/freezers which was key! The master bedrooms are very spacious and, although the bathrooms are a bit outdated, they were clean and the beds were comfortable. The bunk rooms worked well for the teenagers in our group, with the only downsides being the boys in the media room had to use the upstairs powder room and any footsteps/activities upstairs were easily heard. Other notables are the pool room, air hockey table, downstairs bar with refrigerator, all bedrooms having their own attached bathrooms, mud room with deep 2nd sink and refrigerator, and large round table in the dining room perfect for games and puzzles. The owners communicated quickly to answer any questions and provided detailed instructions. We really enjoyed our stay and recommend this house!

Perfect Family Vacation
She’s a Brick Lake House was perfect. Our family of 10 spent relaxing days floating in the lake, paddle boarding, or kayaking. Evenings were filled with games, fishing, and s’mores. This vacation was everything I’d hoped it would be and we will cherish the memories.

Worth The Money
For what you are paying for I believe it is one of the best properties on Lake Anna that will not drain the bank too hard. The backyard is nice and open with a fireplace. With a lot of room for yard games. You will have plenty of room for parking if you are bringing a lot of cars. It is also not too far away from your nearest store.

Wonderful lake house
We loved this Lake Anna lake house especially in September. The water was so warm we could swim for hours. We had 2 jet skis tied to the dock and ran them every day for hours. We even towed our neighbor's boat back to their dock when their engine quit in the middle of the lake. We loved being on the private side with less boat traffic and warmer water. The fishing was good and the sandy beach area was nice. We had two campfires with the great campfire ring and chairs. The house was very spacious and clean. The huge kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. The extra frig was nice to have with all the food we brought. We watched a few football games on the huge living room TV. We ate our meals inside and outside on the deck and by the campfire. We brought 3 other couples with us and had plenty of room in this house. We hope to rent this house again next September!!

About the host

Hosted by Gregg and Kim DenHerder

Host profile image
Gregg grew up around Lake Okoboji in Iowa and Kim came from the warm waters in Louisiana. Together, we made a Brady Bunch and decided that Lake Anna was the place to bring the family together. We love lake living and we work hard so we have time to enjoy life and have fun. Gregg is the kind of guy who taught all the neighborhood kids how to water ski. It makes us happy to help others have a good time.
We discovered this property that needed some TLC and imagination. You couldn’t even see the house from the water. We took upon the task to renovate the house ourselves in an act of faith and a hope that we could make it a special destination home. So, Gregg set about utilizing all his professional home improvement skills, from a stump grinder and chain saw to every imaginable power tool. Kim removed rooms and rooms of wallpaper and borders. Even our friends and family helped paint, fix and furnish.
We created this rental home to be the place where our family would want to escape to. We hope you like what we’ve done to create a destination where everyone can enjoy themselves.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with this house and its waterfront at our favorite part of the lake. The water is warm, the bottom is sandy and a cool stream from a nearby spring keeps your toes cool. This was the spot where we first saw a bald eagle swoop down to grab a fish and enjoy his meal from the broken sweet gum tree near the dock. We recognized that this lot had the advantage of a rare combination of proximity to the water, a flat lawn, and shallow and safe water access for children.
Brick Lake House has plenty of living space and a floor plan designed for entertaining. There is room for the whole group to comfortably hang out together. And there are spaces to break away alone for quiet time. Tall windows span the entire rear face of the house, providing great water views. The high ceilings allow you to feel that you have room to breathe. It has enough room for 16 to eat at the same time facing the water.
This house has good bones. Quality and solid construction keep the home comfortable and quiet. You don't hear the pitter-patter of footsteps around you when you want to sleep in. We love to see generations come together to make family memories here.
Full disclosure, we intentionally seek responsible, respectable guests who will ensure that our home remains maintained. We want to avoid the nightmare stories we hear, of rowdy parties and houses left trashed and broken. This is OUR future home, not just some rental investment. So, we don’t have automatic booking. We check reviews and ask for additional assurances that house rules will be followed when an inquiry comes without reviews. We find that it increases guest safety and keeps costs down. Respectful guests understand and appreciate the care that we have for our home and our guests.
We’re developing quite a few repeat guests. Nothing makes us happier.

What makes this property unique

* With advance notice, we can book together with Heron's Cove next door. See their listing #620039.
It's hard to find a better lake house better suited for families with small children. The gradual slope with a sandy bottom creates a great play area for little ones to splash in. The private and quiet cove has little boat traffic, so there's no constant barrage of waves from their wakes. The water’s floor is sandy, not muddy. And there’s sand at the shore for digging your toes in and building castles. Kids play in the water all day. There's also a fenced -in side yard.
Lake Anna's private side enjoys less water traffic, more privacy, and a longer season, due to the warmer water.
The house is just a few miles away from 2 country stores where you can pick up a few essentials, bait or fast food, country style. And there’s a new Dollar General 2 miles away. The house is not far from the main road, so there are no long drives down gravel roads or through a meandering subdivision to reach the house.
If you bring a boat, the neighborhood launch is 3 lots down. We’ll provide information for access. You will need to provide a gas can for refueling as there are no marinas on our side of the lake.
You also have the option of trailering the boat to a marina on the public, “cold” side. There, they have access to 3 marinas and 3 waterfront restaurants.
By renting on the warm, secluded, private side you can access both sides of the lake. But you can't access the private side if you rent on the public side.

We've tried to include everything to offer you a wonderful lake vacation. Our house is nearby. We’re always adding and changing furnishings and supplies. We regularly check in and work on maintaining the house. It is usually easy for us to drop by when there’s a need.
