About this property

Loft Cottage With Stunning Views Of The Cairngorm Mountains And Local Wildlife.

There is a large family bedroom upstairs containing a kingsize bed and two single beds. The settee downstairs is also a bedsettee so can also be used for sleeping if more privacy is required. Downstairs shower room with shower, hand basin and WC. There is a well equipped kitchen area in the main living room with cooker, microwave, fridge and all cooking utensils for 4 people. Shared use of washing machine, iron, ironing board and drying room suitable for drying clothes and outdoor gear. Lounge contains 3 seater sofabed and armchair. Dining area has table with 4 chairs.TV and DVD. Well stocked bookcase and hifi. Original paintings on the walls. Plentiful information on local activities and walks. All bedding is included and 4 towels per cottage. For guests staying longer than a week these are changed as agreed, usually on a weekly basis.

The main thing our guests comment on is the setting at the foothills of the Monadhliath mountains with views over the Cairngorms. We are located above the village so these can be enjoyed in peace and quiet. In the foreground are sheep and lambs, as we are in a crofting area, together with lapwings, curlews, oyster catchers and hares. But also our guests also find the cottages well equipped, warm and comfortable, which is reflected in our 2019 3* rating (not graded in 2020). The majority of our guests come to walk or bike, which can be done from the door. The Newtonmore wildcat trail is only 200m from the house. And there is an unlimited number of local walks and rides.

Our second cottage, stable, has similar facilities to loft cottage but has 4 single beds and is wheelchair accessbible. The two cottages are adjacent so can be booked together for larger groups.

About the host

Hosted by anne bridgen

Host profile image
My husband and I (Anne) are keen mountaineers and mountain bikers and I love skiing so we can give you lots of information about these pastimes. We also enjoy the arts, both painting and photography. I also run fused glass courses at my studio in the village (at additional cost). We can therefore advise on suitable photography or sketching locations as well as on local art exhibitions.

Why they chose this property

We moved to the area with my husband's job and have been running the cottages since then. We have been asking for feedback so are now confident we are offering the service our guests expect! As we live adjacent to the cottages we can offer advice on activities or deal with any queries you may have while you are there.

We cater primarily for couples and small groups who like walking and who come with pets.

What makes this property unique

We have never lived anywhere where we feel so in touch with nature. Although only 0.5 mile from the village it is several hundred feet higher up and is a world apart -really quiet, peaceful and remote feeling. Hares come up to the back door and we sometimes even have eages flying overhead. Some people even come to view the stars and, if you ask us nicely, we might let you look through our telescope!
