About this property

Charming & cosy Cairngorms retreat for 2 - The Bakehouse, Newtonmore

The Bakehouse (sleeps 2) dates from 1900 and is a beautiful old stone building. When we bought what is now Caman House this building was just a disused store, but once upon a time it was the village bakery. We have lovingly restored The Bakehouse and created a cosy one bedroom home from home. We’ve respected the story of the building, using local materials like wood and stone. It has a wood burning stove, and high quality stylish & quirky furnishings. In the bedroom there is a double bed and single sofa bed for flexible sleeping arrangements for a maximum of 2 guests.

Upon entering The Bakehouse, the open plan living room/kitchen-diner is bright and airy. It has an inviting wood burner, feature stone hearth and high-standard fixtures and fittings. There's a large wall mounted TV with freeview, DVD player with a selection of DVDs, and excellent wifi. The kitchen area has a dishwasher, washing machine, full oven, microwave, double induction hob and fridge-freezer. There is electric central heating throughout (plus the woodburning stove - logs provided). The large bathroom has a shower, wash hand basin, heated towel rail and WC. The spacious double bedroom, which has practical details like individual flexible bedside reading lights and USB sockets, also has a comfortable sofa bed for flexible sleeping arrangements - ie 1 double bed and 1 single sofa bed (maximum 2 guests) so that it suits both couples or those who need two separate beds. Portable JBL bluetooth speakers in the bedroom. Patio doors open onto a small decked area outside with gate (so the wee deck is enclosed and therefore dog friendly).

Small but perfectly formed The Bakehouse is beautifully intimate and carefully designed with all of the amenities of a larger dwelling.

This property is detached and stands in the grounds of Caman House, so it can be booked together with Apartment 2 Caman House to accommodate six people. The garden area is shared with the two other apartments that make up Caman House.

There is ample parking on the Main Street, and in a recessed parking bay on Main street. Free public carpark 2 minute walk away.

There is an Asgard 4-bike cycle-storage unit in the grounds; this can be booked by either guests staying at The Bakehouse or Apartment 2 Caman House. Please contact us to check availability and reserve (free). Once the 4-bike secure store is booked by either party, it is then for their exclusive use only.

This popular retreat is Visit Scotland 4 star rated. The Bakehouse is part of a very small and exclusive portfolio in Newtonmore that recently won the prestigious Highlands & Islands Best Self Catered Accommodation Award.

1 well-behaved dog welcome, just please let us know if you are bringing your dog. Fabulous dog-walking straight from the door including the 10km orbital Wildcat Trail.

Newtonmore has a well-stocked Co-op supermarket (open daily 7am til 10pm). There is also a post office, pharmacy, barbers, Tweed shop, gift shop, two or three pubs or hotel bars that serve good food, 2 or 3 lovely cafes, an all-day Grill, a petrol station (with convenience store) a takeaway and a restaurant. 3 cashpoints (village hall, co-op and petrol station).

Amazing attention to detail
The Bakehouse was as described and it was spotless and well equipment with lovely attention to detail. Newtonmore is an ideal location for exploring the highlands. The village has all the amenities you will need to enjoy your stay. The local hotels do not allow dogs in side but we were able to have drinks outside and we had a lovely meal at the Glen Hotel (outside with the dog). We also had a smashing sunday roast at the McInnes House Hotel in Kingussie (Dog friendly). Our hosts couldn't have been more helpful.
