About this property
Unique, Spacious, Self-Built Eco House with Huge Garden and Movie Room
Our family home was designed and built by us in 2016 and is a certified Passiv-Haus. We love the large open-plan living which is perfect for entertaining and get-togethers. The large patio area and garden are great for relaxing at home, having BBQ’s or just to enjoy the countryside.
You will not be short of amenities here or things to do as you will even have access to a tennis court.
Our house is a great base to explore many tourist destinations such as Stonehenge and Winchester.

About the host
Hosted by Elle Ribbans

We are the Ribbans family from the UK. My name is Elle, my husband is Ben, and we have 2 children, Amelie and Jax. We have had plans to venture off on a travelling adventure for a few years now and things have finally fallen into place so we are off.
We are now Worldschooling the children and we organise Worldschooling hubs for like-minded families in far off places, like the Maldives, South Africa and Zanzibar.
We enjoy outdoor activities, the crazier the better. We spend time mountain biking, rafting, hiking and everything else in-between

Why they chose this property
On arrival at our house you will see the modern design of the house, large driveway and electric gates. Our detached garage doubles as an annexe and Ben’s mother lives above it, so you may see her pottering around outside, but she will be available should you be in need of anything.
Inside the house you will see the modern, minimalist style that we enjoy. The open plan central area is very light due to the duo of fully bi-folding doors directly onto the large patio. Our kitchen comes complete with many appliances.
The main lounge has a 50” TV with a separate sound system. There is also a Playstation 4 linked to the TV for your use. There are also a large selection of DVD’s, games, books and puzzles for your use as well. The dining area has a table large enough to seat 10 people and there is also a breakfast bar with seating for 2. This area is a great social space and we find it is where we spend most of our time as a family.
The movie room is also downstairs and will make you feel like you are at the cinema as the ceiling mounted projector projects directly onto a 124” wall with excellent clarity, plus it has surround sound to really make it feel like a cinema. If you are in need of extra sleeping space, then the sofa bed in here converts to a comfy double bed.
Upstairs are 4 lovely large bedrooms. The master bedroom has a super king bed and plenty of wardrobe space. There is a 43” smart TV in the room and it has its own ensuite with shower, toilet and large sink.
The second bedroom has 2 double beds, the third has another super king size bed and also has a 43” smart TV. The second and third bedrooms are opposite the family bathroom, which has 2 large sinks, an electronically filling bath and a separate open shower. The last bedroom has bunk beds and is directly opposite the master bedroom. This room has its own ensuite with toilet, sink and shower.

What makes this property unique
Our self build is a registered Passiv-Haus, meaning it is very economic and it doesn't run on a conventional heating system.
The house was deliberately built south facing so that we could put a huge array of solar panels on the roof of the house and also the garage. The sun is used to heat up the house through the triple glazed windows, heating up the tiled floor downstairs.
We have a huge acre garden, but this is a rural property so we look out onto a field with a horse and nobody overlooks us.
The house will sleep 10-12 people, as well as a cot if necessary. It makes it a great place for a get together with friends and family. If the weather is nice then our huge patio makes a great spot for BBQ's and drinks. If there are kids staying, then the garden makes a great football pitch, we have a small play area with 2 swings and a slide, we also have a huge tree swing attached to an enormous beech tree. Also a basketball hoop and at my mums house next door is a tennis court that guests can use.
Our location makes us an ideal base for exploring Stonehenge, Winchester, Salisbury and the New Forest. We are also on the direct route between London and the West Country. Andover is on the direct train line to London too.
