About this property
Traditional Irish Cottage
NB** (Bookings available for minimum of a week Friday - Friday only. Check in 6pm - check out 10am). This Traditional Irish cottage is situated on the 'Ring of Kerry' 'Wild Atlantic Way' and the ‘Dark Sky Reserve’.
It is nestled between mountains on one side, and the sea on the other.
It was built in 1917, and was occupied until 1995 by a lady called Annie O''Leary, this is why it’s called 'Annie's Cottage'.
In 1997 the interior of the cottage was modified somewhat to optimise space and light and incorporate necessities such as a shower and toilet, kitchen etc. It was superbly designed and retained all the charm and character of the traditional cottage, eg beams on the ceilings downstairs & sloping ceilings upstairs.
The exterior has all its original stone.
The cottage is tastefully decorated & furnishings etc are of a very high standard.
There is central heating throughout, & electric blankets (heated) on the beds. This is for the comfort of winter visitors.
Downstairs: There is a cosy sitting room with an oil stove and TV. Kitchen: is very well equipped, and has everything you’ll need to exercise your culinary skills during your holiday.
Next to the kitchen is a sun-room/dining-room which has a solid fuel stove. (Briquettes and coal can be purchased in Sneem village). From the sunroom you go on to a patio and secure garden.
Relax looking out at nature, or have a BBQ, in the privacy of these tranquil surroundings or maybe read your favourite book.
Upstairs: A toilet and hand basin, and a separate shower.
Sleeping accommodation in this beautiful cottage comprises of two double bedrooms (one double bed in each room) sleeps four people.
All rooms have original sloping ceilings.
'Annie's Cottage' is an ideal location for touring & exploring the south west of Ireland.
The breathtaking scenery of the Ring of Kerry, Beara peninsula, Dingle peninsula & Killarney can all be savoured on a day trip from your accommodation.
When you step outside the door of the cottage you can breathe the freshness & the different fragrances of the countryside.
For the walking enthusiast, you can enjoy the famous ‘Kerry Way’ which is accessible from the cottage. This rugged mountainous route have some spectacular views of south west Kerry, the Atlantic Ocean and West Cork.
Staigue Fort, is just a few miles from the cottage and is the finest example of a stone ringfort in Ireland. It is thought to be more than 2500 years old.
Another 'must visit' is Sceilig Michael, where Star Wars was filmed.
**(NB)To avoid disappointment, boat trips to land on Sceillig Michael have to be booked well in advance of your holiday date. There are also boat trips which circle the island - they don’t land the visitors.
A Coral Beach’ is just a short distance from the cottage. It is one of only two such beaches in Ireland.
There are also three beautiful sandy beaches nearby. (There is information about where is safe to swim etc in the cottage)
Rock fishing, lake, & sea fishing,
Golf, horse riding can all be enjoyed locally.
Whatever your interest, the choice in this locality is endless.
