About this property
Charming and Comfortable Cottage, Glenbeigh, Ring of Kerry, Free WiFi
Former railway cottage, lovingly restored with contemporary furnishings.
This “zeit-guised” former railway-gatekeeper cottage was built in 1890 and went through numerous transformations throughout the decades. Last modernized in 2015, detailed attention was paid to preserve traditional doors, the original steep staircase and stone walls. The original flooring on the first floor tells the 130-year-old history of Railway Cottage. In Railway Cottage, Modernism lives up to what the good old days promised: all rooms were equipped with a contemporary sense of antiques, international art and design.
Please note that due to the antique, steep staircase, the cottage is not suitable for children under 12 years old or guests with disabilities.
Glenbeigh Railway Cottage nestles idyllically in a small forest at the foot of Curra Mountain and offers stunning views of Coolroe Mountain and the Behy River Valley.
The rural-style kitchen offers all modern amenities, such as an AGA gas-electric oven, dishwasher, fridge and freezer, microwave, electric kettle, toaster and coffee maker.
The cozy living room is equipped with a 4K smart TV, an X-Box OneS, a Bluetooth Hi-Fi-device and a selection of CDs, Movies and games. A small studio on the first floor offers a computer-friendly desk with direct views of the Behy valley and the Ring of Kerry.
High-Speed-Fiber Internet (up to 0.5 GBit/s) is available throughout the cottage and most of the garden.
The luxurious marble-tiled bathroom on the first floor has an easily accessible, large shower and on the ground floor there is an additional guest toilet with a washing machine and dryer.
All bedrooms are situated on the upper floor.
The entire house has a gas central heating system. Cottage Style wood-burning stoves are located in both, the living room and the kitchen.
A CCTV-Camera is installed for the outdoor area above the main entrance.
Glenbeigh on the Wild Atlantic Way is just a 2-3 minutes' drive away or a 10-15 minutes' stroll.
Within a 50 km radius, there is a wide range of famous sights of the legendary Ring of Kerry. We recommend a ride on the Ring of Skellig, west of Portmagee and a visit to the wonderful Kerry Cliffs overlooking the Skellig Islands. We also recommend a visit to the subtropical gardens of Kells Bay, just 10 minutes away, with their amazing fern trees.
For hiking enthusiasts, the picturesque Kerry Way leads directly past the property. Just a stone's throw away, the Behy River offers ideal conditions for anglers and fly fishers (a selection of rubber boots is available inside the cottage).
Rossbeigh Beach is only a 3-4 minutes’ drive away and offers endless sandy beaches and dunes as well as sports activities such as horseback riding, kayaking, surfing and “stand-up paddling". At the neighbouring Cromane Beach you will find a golf jewel, the Dooks Golf Club, one of Ireland's oldest "Links" golf courses.
Kerry Airport at Farranfore is a 35-minute drive away. You can reach Killorglin in 12 and Killarney in 25 minutes. The very popular and touristy town of Dingle is 50 minutes away on the opposite peninsula
The towns of Glenbeigh and Killorglin offer a range of quaint and traditional pubs and excellent restaurants. A selection of supermarkets (Centra, Aldi, Spar, SuperValue, etc.) can also be found nearby.
