Right in the very heart of the city of Rome, sits the Centro district, focused around the superb Piazza Navona, with its glorious architecture and a magnificent central fountain. Nearby, The Pantheon is a stunning 1900-year old building that sits at the heart of the Centro district and is now used as a Catholic church but was once an Ancient Roman temple, built in the time of Emperor Hadrian. Another popular destination in Centro is the beautiful Trevi district, home to traditional narrow cobbled streets with colourful houses and the iconic Trevi Fountain at its centre. To the very north of the Centro, district sit the iconic Spanish Steps, with the Piazza di Spagna at the bottom, the area around which is full of some of the very best high-end fashion shops in Rome. For lovers of shopping and fashion, you can also enjoy the high-end independent shops on the Via del Governo Vecchio. At the very southern end of the Centro district is the beautiful Palazzo Venezia; a stunning 15th-century palace museum housing collections of medieval & renaissance art, sculpture & weaponry. Wherever you walk around Centro, you will be greeted with extraordinarily beautiful sights, from Ancient Roman ruins and relics to the stunning splendour of Italian renaissance architecture, as well as cosy cobbled streets, small food markets and elegant churches.
For an evening meal, there many, many superb restaurants in the large Centro district of Rome, catering to every taste and budget. Cybo can be found just off the Piazza Navona and serves contemporary cuisine based on the Roman and the Mediterranean traditions. Right next door to the iconic Pantheon sits Armando al Pantheon; a well-regarded restaurant serving hearty, traditional Roman fare in a wood-panelled dining room. Finally, Pianostrada serves up tasty meals made with the very freshest ingredients and is located just far enough away from the busy tourist trail, near the Ponte Sisto bridge.
For an aperitivo drink or a late-night tipple, head to Bar del Fico near the Piazza Navona for a relaxed drink in a shabby chic spot, loved by locals and tourists alike. Cul de Sac is an unpretentious bar in the very heart of central Rome that fortunately has not become a tourist rip-off spot like many others. Enjoy a relaxing glass of wine in a welcoming atmosphere. Finally, for a really exciting night out, head to the world-famous Jerry Thomas Speakeasy, where you have to book ahead and pay a €5 annual membership fee. The bar was the first place to serve really high-end experimental cocktails in Italy and there is a rule forbidding you from talking about politics or religion inside.
Although the apartment is located in the historic center it is not in a limited traffic zone and therefore can be easily reached by car.
