26a Marygate is part of the conversion of the former York Post Office Club and has been beautifully done. This part of the building has just three two bedroom apartments, each one finished to an extremely high standard. The building is situated just off Bootham on a quiet street, facing the historic ruins of St Mary's Abbey. First built in 1088 it is all that remains of one of the wealthiest and most powerful Benedictine monasteries in England.

Gallery Apartment is the ground floor apartment of this development and has been very thoughtfully appointed. The living area has a fully fitted kitchen with everything that you need, including plenty of storage space for all the tasty treats that you buy when you are out and about exploring. There is a dining table that comfortably seats 4 people. There is then a spacious, comfortable seating area with a sofa and Retro Eames Brown Leather Lounge Chair and Footstool, where you can sit back, relax and enjoy your time in the living area. Whether its sat in front of the smart TV enjoying a film or a catch up on the days events, you will all have plenty of space to relax.

There are two bedrooms in the apartment, the master bedroom has a super kingsize bed that can be made up as a super king or two single beds, just great for sinking into and recharging for the next day. There are fitted wardrobes that run the length of the bedroom, more than enough space to fit all the outfits that you want to bring with you for the numerous events that York has to offer. There is a luxurious en suite, complete with a bath with shower over, double sinks and underfloor heating.

The second bedroom again has wall to wall storage and a wonderful double bed to sink into at the end of a very busy day of fun! The house bathroom serves this bedroom and has a walk in shower, again with underfloor heating.

There is a laundry area containing loads of storage and also a washer/dryer.

With its white walls, light wood flooring and classic pieces of furniture this apartment is a wonderful space from which you can head out to York City Centre, only minutes walk away and make the very most of every minute.

A superb location and a touch of class! Perfect for families or couples!

Lovely apartment, superb location 5 mins walk to York Minster / Shambles and just a lovely wee quiet area too, private parking for 1 car is excellent and an all round brilliant stay had here - would highly recommended and we will stay here again when we come down to York again!!

The Gallery apartment was exceptional. We booked last minute and were not disappointed as the apartment was spotlessly clean with great amenities. 2 mins walk from York Minster. The welcome hamper was a lovely touch. Will definitely return.

Great location with parking

Booked the apartment for a last minute short break, it is in a great location minutes from shops and places to visit and comes with parking.The property is well appointed with everything you need for a self-catered stay, but also close to a local supermarket and lots of cafes and restaurants. Everything was in good condition, a modern and bright apartment. Heating in the property is a little hit and miss, it was cold upon arrival as the radiators were turned off - this is to conserve energy but is not great when you arrive in the winter in the cold and dark. They quickly warmed but not easy to regulate as the thermostats didn’t seem to work. No welcome pack in the property even though the arrival information states there would be.

We enjoyed our stay at Marygate Gallery apartment. Everything you needed was available and the welcome pack was beautiful. The location was great. The only issue was the apartment did not have a lot of air circulation. Fans were provided which helped.

Amazing stay

I booked this place as a very last minute get away for myself husband and 2 children. It was absolutely amazing stunning apartment. Spacious and everything you could possibly need. We wish we could have stayed longer. Everything you could possibly need in kitchen and 2 bathrooms were a godsend with 2 children. The king bed was split into 2 twins for us too. Which was great. We look forward to booking again. A hidden gem.

Fantastic, clean, and comfortable apartment in the heart of the city

We were a family of 4 visiting York. The location of this apartment was ideal. The apartment itself was very clean, well-stocked, and spacious. We were able to have the beds set up as two twin beds and one double bed. It provided us the perfect sleeping arrangement. The beds and pillows were comfortable, and we really appreciated having two fans to use. If I had anything bad to say, it would only be that we could not open the windows at night to let some air in. We happened to visit during a heat wave. I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone, and would absolutely stay again - even during a heat wave :). The fans made it tolerable.

Great location

Great location- quiet area but deceptively close to the centre of York, the river, and the wall walk. Courtyard parking was great and we didn’t have to use the car as York shops, museums and restaurants were all just a 10 to 15 minute walk. There isn’t a view or outside seating area but the museum gardens are 100m down the road with plenty of space to spread out. Clean and modern inside, beds on the firm side but comfy enough. A few items are ‘style over practicality’ but totally OK to live with for a few days away. Great location, modern, clean and tidy, quiet area.

A Little Gem..

Very clean and well furnished apartment on the edge of the city wall in York. Modern refurbishment that was very clean and comfortable for our three day stay. The 'Welcome Pack' was a nice touch and well received. Specifically wanted somewhere close to the city with a parking space. We stayed on the ground floor, but would look for the higher floors if available to have a view out over the wall. Would recommend to others.

OUR SECOND STAY, LOVE IT

This is a great 2 bed 2 bath apartment in a lovely part of the city, easy to find and very well equipped. A lovely welcome pack full of goodies was an extra bonus and much appreciated. This was our second stay and we will be back! The only negative thing is the lack of recycling…..in this day and age to be told to put all waste in one bin seems so wrong! We also popped in to the Stays office, enquiring about the possibility of a 3 bed apartement in similar area for next year, and didnt find the assistant particulary helpful/efficient, in the end she told us it would be easier to look on line!

The best Apartment ever

We have been travelling a lot over the years all over the world but have never been in such a great apartment. Not only is the apartment situated at a great location, just a few steps away from the awesome York Minster, but it offers everything one needs and wishes for having a nice vacation. Plus, the welcome at the apartment with a basket full of fruit, lots of reading material on York and surrounding area made our trip an unforgettable one. Needless to say that the Stays York Ltd. staff was kind, helpful and friendly. All the best and we hope that we will be able soon to go back. Ruth

Wonderful location

We were looking for a quiet but central location with parking and this property really met the brief. We know the area pretty well and think it is perfect for exploring the city while feeling just a little away from the hubbub (we stayed when the Christmas markets were in full swing). Just a few minutes walk takes you into the city centre via Bootham Bar or Museum Gardens, and the apartment is literally a few metres away from the friendly Minster Inn. The apartment was spacious and chic - with a shout out to the bean to cup coffee machine, which was a revelation! Loads of storage space too. The weather wasn’t kind to us, so this was a lovely place to spend time in while waiting for the rain to ease. Just a few extra touches would make it perfect. A desk/dressing table would have been very welcome and the large mirror in the bathroom was fixed too high on the wall to be much use to people of 5ft 4in and under.
