My daughter and I had a little girls trip and it was perfect. We absolutely loved the property and amenities. We plan on coming back next summer! Thank you:)
Enjoyed our stay and appreciate the great space that has been created here. Loved the view of the lake from the cabin and the peaceful / quiet space. The wood-fired sauna was an added bonus! Thanks so much for a fabulous stay.
Stayed three nights at Mallard Point cabins. This is our fourth year returning and loved it. There is a perfect swimming beach that is nice and sandy. The area is perfect for kids to play in water and the adults to enjoy the sunshine. The fire pits and wood provided make for a nice evening.

Cute cozy cabin on the lake
Loved our stay in northern Minnesota. Though small, our cabin was stocked with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. No TV but had blue tooth speakers for music and plenty of games and puzzles.
Met up with my friend from Norway to reminisce growing up in MN. This peaceful location has all of the best. The wonderful birch bark and red pine woods, the loon calls off of the lake and beautiful sun sets.
The cabin is lovely, cozy, clean from top to bottom. Comfy beds with really nice sheets and blankets. All the basics are provided in kitchen and bathroom. Games, puzzles and even Legos for the kids in living room. Beautiful view of the lake. Emily was great about providing detailed information ahead of time. Highly recommend!

Family/Pet friendly cottages on an awesome lake!
This cottage (there are two actually) was lovely. It was well equipped and maintained which made it very easy to be there the week with my family (2 boys, husband & self) and 2 dogs! Having my dogs with me made it a true treat!
Emily & James are professional and welcoming and made us feel at home. The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is because of the closeness of the buildings. The pictures don't really show how close the cottages are to one another and the owner's house. I almost felt like I was on a family vacation with the owners and the other cottage occupants which was fine but not really what we were expecting. My family is very private and would have preferred a more isolated house/cottage to stay in. Other than that, it was PERFECTION. Great location. Awesome (super comfy) beds. Well kept yard. Clean lake with lots of fish and not too much boat traffic. Thanks for a lovely week!

Sorry to hear that this wasn't quite what you were expecting, but I'm glad to know your family still enjoyed your trip overall. I very much appreciate your kind words as well as your honest response. I know that you, and other guests, put a lot of time, effort and money into planning and taking vacations, and whether you stay for a weekend or a few weeks, are close to home or travel a great distance, and it's so important to me that our place meets your expectations for your cherished time away. The first step in achieving that is an accurate portrayal of our property and cabins that attracts guests who are looking for an experience like we have here. I will certainly take this as an opportunity to edit my listings and ensure that future guests understand the property layout and expect a somewhat 'resort-like' experience with shared outdoor spaces and amenities. Thank you again for staying with us!
Quick getaway for MEA break. Great place and oh so cozy! The beds were amazingly comfortable! We did lots of activities, pumpkin patch, a few parks, some light hiking and Judy Garland museum. Beautiful and quiet lake too!
Cabin was cozy and comfortable for our stay! The view is incredible and it was the perfect location for us. We will definitely look into staying again!
We absolutely loved our time at the cabin with our parents! Seeing the sunrise in the morning, enjoying the view of the lake, and seeing the first snowfall was so beautiful! Emily and James thought of everything to make our stay wonderful. We have been coming here for many years. We all feel like this cabin is our home away from home! Would highly recommend!
Mother, daughter, granddaughters annual get away.
Cooking, baking, arts, reading, game playing in a comfortable setting with wonderful lake atmosphere. Another year of memories.
Cabin was comfortable and cozy and we loved being just steps from the lake. Owners were helpful and responsive with communication before our trip and everything while we were there was smooth and easy. Quality and availability of water crafts (kayaks, sups, canoe) was far better than most rentals we've experienced. Would definitely return to this spot.
Our 3rd long weekend here did not disappoint. Still as beautiful and fun as the first trip! Renting both cabins so the grandparents could fish, kayak (and watch Maui mat silliness) with our kids made this trip extra special.
We stayed for several days after a winter snowstorm and when the temperature was less than zero F. The cabin was very well insulated and always very comfortable and the property is well maintained and the area is beautiful.
We rented this cabin as a little get away from home during Christmas break. What a cozy cabin during the winter, so peaceful! The fireplace was relaxing and the lights on the railing very pretty. The owners also left some cross country skis for us to use which was very nice! We would definitely rent again and maybe have friends or family stay in the cabin next door. Thanks Emily for answering any questions we had, much appreciated!
The cabin was so cozy and had everything we needed and more. The rental price was very affordable as was the pontoon rental. The location was perfect for getting to hiking trails or town. The owners were so pleasant. We will be back!
The property is in a perfect location- wooded with a sandy beach and close to town and many hiking trails! Emily was so helpful in providing hiking recommendations and the hospitality was wonderful. The cabin was very clean and well stocked and we appreciated all the sustainable products- soaps, toilet paper, etc. We will definitely be returning!
This was our second summer trip to this cabin and everything was as we remembered it. Lots of fun memories made on the kayaks and off the dock, a fun day trip to Duluth, campfire, fishing...our kids (1st grade and pre-k) love it here! Looking forward to 2021 visit already!

About the host
Hosted by Emily Bujold
After living in afar in Australia, Micronesia, and Japan and nearby in Wisconsin and Minneapolis, in busy urban centers and quietly afloat in the Pacific, the water was our grounding, our inspiration, and our source of renewal. Shortly after starting our family we began our mission to find a place on the water. After extensive searching, we realized it was just a short paddle across the lake from James’ childhood home here on Prairie Lake. We invite you to share this special place with us and soak up all the goodness the Northwoods has to offer.
Why they chose this property
We love how close we are to everything while still feeling away from it all. We have lakeshore in all directions, access to water that beckons adventure throughout the seasons, a humbling connection with the wildlife, and a peaceful place to spend time with friends and family.
We're just five miles from shops and dining in downtown Grand Rapids to the south and less than 10 miles from the National Forest to the north. Entrance to the Taconite Trail and Mesabi Trail, one of the longest paved trails in the nation, is less than two miles away. Access to numerous, well-maintained cross-country ski trails within 15 minutes. Direct access to the nearest snowmobile trail via the lake. The bait shop, convenience store and public boat access are just a half mile away.
What makes this property unique
Prairie Lake is a calm lake with little boat traffic. It really is a treasure for paddle sports, fishing, sunset pontoon rides and other passive activities, with quiet shorelines and places for exploration, such as small bays and The Gorge. And when you do want to get out water skiing, you have the place to yourself.
