About this property
Glaisters Farmhouse - a house that sleeps 8 guests in 4 bedrooms
In a rural setting with views across open farmland to the surrounding Galloway Hills, offering spacious accommodation for 8 over two floors and graded four stars by Visit Scotland. Recently renovated to provide comfortable, contemporary accommodation, yet incorporating many of the its original features Glaisters Farmhouse is just 3 miles from the small village of Corsock and approximately 12 miles from Castle Douglas which offers all the usual amenities you would expect of a small rural market town including an array of independent shops, restaurants and pubs, a swimming pool, a theatre a which also doubles as a cinema and an 18 hole golf course.
On the edge of the Galloway Forest Park, 300 square miles of rugged wild land which is one of only four "Dark Sky Parks" in the western world. It has an excellent network of facilities for visitors which also links to the 7Stanes Mountain Bike routes. The forest park can be accessed by car, cycle and on foot and the Raiders Road forest drive is open at selected times of the year for cars to drive through less accessible parts of the forest. The forest park is a haven for wildlife and the local Red Kite Trail gives superb opportunities for seeing Red Kites and other birds. Nearby Loch Ken is a busy water sports and course fishing destination with Galloway Activity Centre offering both land and water sports activities.
The Solway Firth is within a short drive and provides a seascape contrast to the forests and hills around the farmhouse. Although Galloway has no ‘Munros', discerning hill walkers cherish the remoteness of the Rhinns of Kells, the Merrick and the wild Silver Flow country as well as coastal hills such as Criffel and Screel offering superb views across the Solway to Cumbria.
Scotland's culture and heritage can be explored at the many National Trust and Historic Scotland properties including Threave Castle near Castle Douglas and Broughton House in Kirkcudbright. Kirkcudbright itself is a bustling harbour town with historic connections to the Art World through the likes of the Glasgow Boys and Jessie King and hosts regular exhibitions in numerous galleries including Kirkcudbright Galleries.
For younger family members, The Cocoa Bean Factory in Twynholm is well worth a visit, with its combination of indoor and outdoor play areas and fun chocolate-making workshops. Ernespie Farm in Castle Douglas also provides both indoor and outdoor play, along with a welcoming coffee shop. In Kirkcudbright, The Wee Pottery and the Dark Space Planetarium offer excellent indoor activities.
