Summary: Located in the quaint town of Bideford, this beautiful home for 4 welcomes you for a relaxing coastal getaway. Fresh wooden floors are perfectly complemented with crisp white walls, whilst velvet furniture and a contemporary kitchen add to its stylish feel. Within a 3 minute walk, you’re in the heart of the town with great restaurants and a historic harbour to explore. Meanwhile, many of North Devon’s best gems are just a stone's throw away, including Saunton Sands, Appledore & the Tarka Trail.
The Space: After long days exploring the coast, nothing beats retreating to this gorgeous home. Its elevated position means you’re set back from the road, so settle into the sofas, pop your feet up and revel in privacy and peace. On cool nights, get the log burner roaring as a film plays on the wall-mounted smart TV - it really is the cosiest spot going. Collect locally sourced produce and rustle up delicious dinners in the well equipped kitchen - it’s been kitted out in a sleek shaker style and with a characterful ceramic butler sink to boot. Start your day with a homemade coffee, then step out into the pretty garden to enjoy it in the morning sun. The corner sofa is a real treat too, especially with a glass of wine or two at sunset!
Upstairs, find two well-sized bedrooms each with a full length mirror and ample clothes hanging space. The master features a king-size bed as well as a wall-mounted TV for those lazy mornings in bed, whilst the second room has a small double (4ft x 6ft 3in). Both share a luxurious family bathroom with marble tiles, a roll-top bath as well as a large walk-in shower with a waterfall head. There’s free on-road parking outside the house as well as in the local streets around.
Guest Access: The entire house is accessible excluding two locked cupboards.
The Neighborhood: Located on the North Devon coast is the pretty town of Bideford, which is steeped in interesting history. The house is located in a prime position, set back from the bustle of the town centre but just a stones throw to enjoy the best of it! There are a number of places to stop and take in the river views, plus there are great pubs, cafes, and fish & chip shops that line The Quay. There is a beautifully landscaped town park at its centre, Victoria Park, which is home to an outdoor playing area for young children that includes a paddle pool (summer only). All are within a short walking distance of the house. The Burton Gallery has a growing national reputation as a place to see beautiful art and photography. For good dining, we would recommend The Italian Kitchen, Number Eight or The Mariners.
The town straddles both banks of the River Torridge. On the East-the-Water side, on the far bank, you can pick up the Tarka Trail which is a popular walking and cycling route snaking for nearly 100 miles around the North Devon region. Bideford is 2 miles upstream from the Atlantic coast at Westward Ho!, while Appledore and Instow is another lovely spot for those in search of sunny pints and fine food.
Westward Ho! is one of the closest beaches, running parallel to a large nature reserve and golf course. It's a brilliant place to enjoy water sports such as surfing, swimming, paddle boarding and kite surfing - there are also places to hire kits. If you love wild beaches, the coastline heading westwards to Hartland has some great lesser-known beaches like Abbotsham Cliffs, Brownsham Beach and Hartland Quay – these are more for walkers than bathers however. For more sandy beaches head 15 miles around the bay to Saunton Sands, Croyde and Woolacombe - these are some of the UK's best beaches, especially for surfing!
Getting Around: Due to the remote nature of Devon, a vehicle is recommended for getting the most out of your time here. Free parking is available outside the house. Whilst you can stop right outside the house to load/unload, guests should be aware that the is a sets of stairs leading up to the house from the pavement.
