About this property
Stunning views, enclosed garden & private off road parking
Set in the charming old fishing village of Appledore in North Devon, Dartonia Cottage sleeps up to 6 people with stunning views over the estuary and off road private parking for up to 2 cars. The property also benefits from an enclosed rear garden, lawn and decked seating area with patio furniture for relaxing and al-fresco dining.
The cottage was fully re-furbished in 2017 to a very high standard and is tastefully decorated throughout with light, bright pastel shades and has a charming nautical theme reflecting it's location overlooking the estuary and sea beyond.
You enter the mid terraced cottage from a quiet street, down a short private path. The entrance hall leads into the lounge and provides access up the stairs to the first. On the first floor there are two bedrooms and a large family bathroom, with access up to the second floor and master suite.
First Floor
Bedroom 1 - Is a large double bedroom over looking the rear garden, with far reaching sea views. It is tastefully decorated in soft pastel colours and beautiful country style furniture comprising of, double bed with orthopaedic memory foam mattress and memory foam topper allowing a choice of sleep firmness, check of drawers, bedside tables, full length mirror and hanging space.
Bedroom 2 - Is a spacious twin bedroom with a nautical theme in keeping with the holiday cottages location and nautical heritage. Furniture comprises of two single beds with orthopaedic memory foam mattress and memory foam topper allowing a choice of sleep firmness, chest of drawers, bedside table and hanging space. Children's bed rails are also available if required for smaller guests which fit the single beds to prevent falling out of bed.
Bathroom 1 - The main bathroom on the first floor has been superbly refurbished and equipped. It includes a walk in shower, double ended bath (with shower attachment), basin, toilet, heated towel rail, shelves and de-mist mirror with bluetooth speaker system. The room also benefits from stunning sea/estuary views which can be enjoyed from the bath. So whether you choose to put on some music relax in the bath and enjoy the views or pull down the blind and jump in the shower, this bathroom caters for everyone. A baby bath is also available upon request.
Second Floor
The real gem of this property is on the second floor where you can find a tranquil master suite with a nautical theme and some lovely touches. The room benefits from stunning and far reaching views over the estuary and out to sea, which can be enjoyed from the comfort of your bed. To make the most of the amazing views the room also includes a telescope for you to watch the bustle of the estuary life, the lifeboat in action and to explore the far reaching beaches and countryside.
Furniture in the room comprises of a double bed with memory foam mattress, tall-boy wardrobe/chest of drawers, bedside tables made from wood recovered from a shipwreck and TV. Off the master bedroom is an en-suite bathroom comprising of a large walk in shower, basin and toilet. The en-suite also benefits from stunning estuary views.
Although the room is not overlooked, both the master bedroom and en-suite have shutters, which complete the nautical look.
Downstairs there is a cosy lounge with sumptuous red-leather sofas and large flat-screen TV and DVD plus loads of board games to play with the family or friends.
Beyond the lounge is a kitchen-diner with fold-out pine table and chairs for 6 and a well-equipped kitchen with everything you need to cook fun family meals; an oven, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, kettle, toaster and brand new for 2025, a large American style fridge/freezer with plumbed water and ice dispenser.
Outside, to the rear of the cottage is the large enclosed rear garden which is accessed from the back door in the kitchen or via the private lane to the rear of the property. Immediately outside the back door is a large decked area with seating and tables for 6 people for simply relaxing or al-fresco dining. The garden slopes gently downwards and comprises of a lawn, path, borders and shrubs.
At the end of the garden is private parking off road parking for up to two cars, which is quite unique for holiday properties in Appledore. With public parking at a premium in Appledore during peak months this is a massive benefit. Meaning you can arrive, unload at leisure and come and go as you please, always knowing you will be able to park, load and unload easily.
The cottage is ideally situated just a short walk down to the centre of Appledore, famous for it's art galleries and craft shops. The village also has some excellent pubs and restaurants and there is passenger ferry across to Instow in the Summer where you will find a lovely sandy beach which welcomes dogs. Instow also has more great pubs and restaurants.
Beyond the immediate area you have some of the best surfing beaches in the UK at Westward Ho! and Saunton Sands. Westward Ho! also has one of the oldest golf courses in the UK at the Royal North Devon Golf Club.
Changeover day is usually a Friday or Saturday for 7 day stays. Other days may be available upon request.
We welcome pets (up to two dogs) at an additional charge of £25 for the first pet and £20 for the second per stay. We operate a strict no pets on furniture or beds policy and charge a £100 refundable deposit.
The property is heated by gas central heating with individual thermostats on all radiators allowing precise control over individual room temperatures. We love our environment and when refurbishing the property have tried to make the property as energy efficient as possible. In addition to this all of our electricity is supplied from renewable sources. So the windmills you can see far on the horizon, may actually be supplying the energy you are using during your holiday.
Overall the property comprises of around 92sq m or 301sq ft of accommodation
