About this property

Quirky 3 bed holiday home with Wood-fired Hot-tub

If you are looking for some R&R and peace and quiet, then look no further, Honey & Hive self-catering holiday cottages have you covered. We are a family-run business offering a modern peaceful getaway. Whether you're sitting in the hot tub listening to the owls on an evening, going on an adventure to enjoy one of the many rural walks in the area, or even enjoying a meal at our local community-owned pub, we are confident you will enjoy your stay with us and your escape to the country.
The Shires sleep 7 in total over 3 bedrooms. 2 King size beds, 1 room with a twin or super king and a sofa bed in the living room for 1 person. We provide bedding, towels and dressing gowns as well as tea, coffee and milk to get you started.
We are based in the quiet village of Rudston, the longest-occupied village in the country! We also have the oldest monolith in the world (2000AD) which is situated at the church. There are many circular works for taking dogs and the local pub does great food, it is a 5 min walk from the property. It is a short 15 min drive to the beach at Bridlington. There is a lot of wildlife around us, from birds of prey and owls in the evening to partridge and pheasants.

There are many walks in the area and lots of places to visit. We have 3 major cities within an hour's drive - Leeds, York and Hull.

The beach at Bridlington is a 15 min drive from the property as well as close proximity to Scarbrough, Filey and Whitby.
We offer a peaceful retreat from the busy world, and we expect our guests to treat our neighbours and us with respect and be considerate of other people when using the outside spaces - we are not a party house and we live on site.

We happily accept pets, and we will accept 2 dogs on the instant booking - if you are looking at bringing more please message us first. We don't allow puppies on the property and don't allow animals to be left on their own or on the furniture.
We will provide enough wood to ensure you can have a hot tub for every day of your stay. If you want to use the chiminea then you will need to bring your own logs or we will refill your log store for £10. We are happy for you to bring your own seasoned logs with you if you prefer. If you are looking to use the BBQ please bring your own charcoal - we have BBQ utensils.
Our village is surrounded by working farms and a working estate. There are flys, smells and animal noises.
Due to new fire legislation as of 1st October 2023, we can't allow deep fat fryers, e-bikes, e-scooters and candles on the premises.

Great find
Fantastic property in a great area fir visiting the Yorkshire coast line. Great secure back yard and front garden area for the dogs. Comfy beds and everything we needed was provided in the property. Lots of walks and a pub on the doorstep. Would definitely recommend and return.

Short Christmas Break
This spacious, yet cosy, well equipped cottage was perfect for a 3 night break for 6 between Xmas & new year. Liam was a fantastic host and was on hand to receive us and deal with any issues - fortunately there were none. Located in a small village (with a great community pub) it was within a short distance for walks along the East Yorkshire coastline. I would highly recommend this for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway in the beautiful East Yorkshire setting.

Highly recommend
We have had an amazing stay in The Shires Cottage, this was certainly a home away from home experience, the owner was lovely and everything was supplied and of excellent quality - the beds are so comfortable! The hot tub was huge and enjoyed by all. Great location for us, we visited Flamingo Land and Filey, had a lovely time on the beach and had breakfast at the Lighthouse Tea Rooms which was only 20 mins away. We would definitely recommend and will be visiting again.
