The space
The curved and split level architectural design of The Gatehouse offers the unique combination of open plan social spaces to suit large families and friends, while still offering a cosy coastal ambience for couples.

The two lounge/tv rooms provide guests with the flexibility to sit back and relax after a day at the beach with a drink in hand watching the world go by and savouring the sea view from the comfort and vantage point of the upper lounge, while family games and movies can be happening in the lower lounge. Truly a space for everyone in your group…. Including those with paws!

The Gatehouse has three beautifully furnished bedrooms on the ground floor. The spacious Master Bedroom has a King Size Bed and modern ensuite shower room with WC. In the second bedroom you will also find a King Size Bed, whilst the nautical theme third bedroom is set up as a Single Bedroom. The modern, main bathroom is also on the ground floor adjacent to the bedrooms and includes a bath, shower facility and WC.

The open plan, modern kitchen/diner level is located in the centre of the house, with five wide steps up to it from the hallway. Facilities in the kitchen include an INDUCTION HOB - ELECTRIC OVEN - WARMING DRAWER - DISHWASHER - STEAMER/GRILL - BOILING HOT WATER TAP - FRIDGE/FREEZER - MICROWAVE.

The two unique circular lounges both lead off from the kitchen/dining level. There are eight steps from the dining area up to the first lounge which offers panoramic sea views across Avon Beach. This lounge includes a FLATSCREEN SMART TV - FREE WIFI is available (subject to availability from Internet service Provider). The second lounge is accessed via four steps down from the dining area and has French doors out onto the rear courtyard garden. This lounge also includes a FLATSCREEN SMART TV.

The Gatehouse has the convenience of a separate utility room with a WASHER/DRYER for all your beach towels and washing needs.

This accommodation has a HAIRDRYER for guests to use.

THE LOCAL AREA:
With Christchurch Harbour on one side and the open sea on the other The Gatehouse truly offers a location with something for everyone on the doorstep. A year round slice of coastal heaven.

Avon Beach
A beautiful coastal area with easy flat access from The Gatehouse to the beach and prom. Avon Beach offers idyllic views of Mudeford Bay and the Isle of Wight. RNLI lifeguard bathing areas, beach hut hire, ice creams, fish and chips, The Noisy Lobster deli, bakery and shop as well as their stunning seafood restaurant offering all day dining and cocktails. You may never want to leave!

Mudeford Quay
Step outside The Gatehouse and you can walk a few minutes along the Avon Beach prom to the picturesque and historic Mudeford Quay. Offering the ever popular family pastime of crabbing from the quayside, water sport hire, children’s play park, fishing trips, boat trips to Christchurch quay, waterside cafe, ice cream, beach shop and the historic Haven House Inn. The perfect British seaside pub to enjoy Fish and Chips and a local ale while watching the sunset.
From the Quay you can also take a five minute ferry ride over to Hengistbury Head and Mudeford Spit.

Hengisbury Head and Mudeford Spit/Sandbank
Described as one of the most important Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in England, it offers year-round coastal walks, 300 types of birds, a visitor centre to learn all about its archaeology and iron age history, stunning views and unspoilt beaches. Not to mention its famous colourful beach huts and The Beach House Café to reward yourself with a warming coffee after a winter walk, sunny seaside Pimms or lunch with a view. Mudeford Spit and Hengistbury head truly are something unique.

Highcliffe Castle
Built between 1831-1836 the picturesque Highcliffe Castle is a 30 minute coastal stroll along the beach prom, through Steamer Point Nature Reserve and castle grounds. As well as the beautiful Grade 1 listed building itself, the grounds are perfect for a picnic on the castle lawns, or kids adventures amongst the pine trees. There is a tea rooms and car park for those who prefer to drive. Many events and exhibitions are hosted at the castle during the year so worth looking at their social media page or website to see what’s on during your visit.
The adjacent Steamer Point is a 24 acre cliff top designated local nature reserve that makes for a lovely walk from The Gatehouse to Highcliffe Castle, with a small information centre enroute along the path that has interactive displays for children to play and learn.

Christchurch
As well as a thriving high street, the beautiful town of Christchurch offers the historic priory, castle ruins, picturesque gardens, river walks, boat trips, boutique shops and restaurants, quayside open air splash park and a full calendar of events throughout the year, including the Christchurch Food Festival. Walk along the river through Stanpit Marsh Nature Reserve from The Gatehouse to Christchurch, drive, or even take a pretty boat trip from Mudeford Quay to Christchurch and soak in the scenery.

New Forest National Park
A short drive from the Gatehouse is the New Forest National Park. Covering 219 square miles of beautiful scenery for walking, cycling or slow scenic drives. You’re sure to spot the famous New Forest ponies and picturesque thatched roof country pubs on your visit.

Bournemouth
Bournemouth town centre is just a car ride away for high street stores, tourist attractions and family entertainment – oceanarium, cinema, crazy golf, Pier, Pavilion and Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) for amazing shows and concerts.

DOGS:
Fully house trained dogs are welcome (maximum 2)
The Gatehouse location benefits from access to many dog friendly walks and open areas. In winter months, dogs are allowed on all the nearby beaches. In the summer months the property is adjacent to a section of the beach (Gundimore Beach) that allows dogs all year round. It is also just a short walk via the Avon Beach/Friars Cliff promenade with dogs on lead to Highcliffe Beach and Steamer Point Nature Reserve where dogs are also allowed all year round. This walk leads to the beautiful Highcliffe Castle grounds where dogs are welcome and you can continue the coastal path past the castle to the Chewton Bunny Nature Reserve with a stop at the Cliffhanger restaurant which is very dog friendly!
From Mudeford Quay dogs can also go on the regular ferry crossings over to Hengistbury Head and Mudeford Sandbank area, where again dogs are welcome year round.
The beach areas that do not allow dogs in summer months (1st May-30th September) still allow dogs on leads onto the prom to enable you to walk along and access the dog friendly beach areas.
The 65 hectare Stanpit Marsh Nature Reserve is a slightly further walk, but a fabulous way to walk from The Gatehouse into Christchurch… you can always get the ferry back! The reserve does require dogs to be kept on leads.
These are all walks directly from the Gatehouse, in addition we have the fabulous New Forest National Park just a short drive away for many many more amazing walks.

Very Comfortable Haven
Great location - right on beach and easy walking to Christchurch Harbor. Safe and secure behind gate and very quiet, despite being on road to beach parking. Inside, all appliances, bath, shower, etc. are new and work well. Full kitchen is a bonus with most everything necessary to cook a meal available if you look around. Nice linens and towels and plenty of room to spread out. Bath salts and biscuits were a nice touch. I highly recommend the Gatehouse and would gladly return.

Continuing the themes, the tranquillity of the nearby isle of Purbeck was the inspiration for Enid Blyton's Famous Five adventures.
