Lovely old building set in dramatic scenery. The owners were very helpful and made us feel very welcome. The pool was geeat and the perfect place to cool off.

About the host
Hosted by Tanya & Mike Barrett
After a lifetime of living in the Chiltern Hills in South East England at the end of the Metropolitan line close to London we finally managed to fulfil our long held dream of relocating to the South of France. After many years of renting Holiday homes across Europe together we wanted to bring everything we had learned as customers about what made a holiday rental very special and apply that to our new business venture.
Why they chose this property
Firstly, its the location, set within an idyllic valley with the intriguingly named Argent Double river gently meandering past, Au Pont Romain offers an oasis of calm & tranquillity with it’s historic Roman Bridge, gloriously coloured cliffs and intriguing cave, it sits at the start of the foothills to the stunning black mountains, nature is abundant with Fig, Olive, Yucca & Pine trees providing shade across the 4 acres of grounds & the swimming pool, it is a sanctuary to insects, lizards birds, bats, rabbits, deer & if you are very lucky you may spot one of the elusive Stone Marten’s which make the valley home . Secondly, despite being within an hour of the regions major tourist locations, Au Pont Romain feels a million miles away from daily life.
What makes this property unique
At Au Pont Romain it is the sense of history that captures you, whether you are stood on our Roman bridge, examining the marble offcuts from its previous life as a Marble cutting Mill, exploring the nearby Cathar castles or relaxing under a tree with a book. A 10 minute walk to town and you could be having a drink in one of several beautiful squares in the heart of town with trees planted in the 1700's or gazing at the medieval architecture in the 13th Century Abbey.
