About this property

Gorgeous 3 bedroom home opposite beach. !

a stunning, spacious and airy maisonette situated two minutes (50m) level walk from the beach in beautiful Budleigh Salterton with three bedrooms sleeping up to six people (five adults or up to six people including two children)
The flat has two full bathrooms: these and the kitchen have underfloor heating, and the entire flat has central heating from a brand new boiler with very effective radiators. Spacious fully equipped kitchen and beautiful open living area for relaxing, & six at the table.

The space
This large three bedroomed apartment has just undergone an extensive refurb, retaining a gorgeous vintage character with touches of luxury throughout. Floors are stripped and polished, bathrooms and kitchen have Travertine and Italian porcelain tiled floors with underfloor heating making the flat cosy at any time. Upstairs is a full double ended bath with separate shower, whilst downstairs is a larger shower...big enough to wash a dog.. and loo, which doubles as utility room with washer / dryer.

The bedrooms are generous sized, two doubles (one of which can be a twin if required) and one single (which can become a double at a push) and mattresses and furnishings are excellent quality with bedding and towels provided for your use.

The kitchen is equipped not only with a gas hob and electric oven as well as microwave and full sized fridge, but also dishwasher and plenty of crockery, pans, utensils - all you need to make this your home from home.

In spite of being in the centre of town it is quiet due to double glazing throughout, (except the downstairs bathroom/utility which has the original wooden sash windows).

The apartment is furnished with a stylish blend of classic vintage gems and modern touches like the venetian blinds, comfy armchairs and an oversized downstairs shower. The high brekfast bar between the kitchen and living room makes the place feel sociable and modern, while other 'shabby chic' details keep it homey and interesting.

The majority of the refurb where possible has used reclaimed, recycled, and original materials so that flat has a unique and eclectic feel: Imagine 'The Wombles' meet 'Bagpuss'! ('....making good use of the things that we find....'....dum de dum......'we will mend it we will fix it, we will make it like new, new, new..') but feels luxurious and spacious with high ceilings and wonderful light.

Early in the morning, pop over the road to the beach to buy amazingly fresh fish from the fisherman at his boat, or if you don't fancy cooking - any night (except Mondays!) try the variety of great local restaurants and takeaways within the town.

Dogs are welcome subject to some restrictions - please check.
Same applies to children- We didn't design this place with little ones in mind so PLEASE do get in touch before confirming your reservation, it may not be suitable for all.

Any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
Guest access
There's an inexpensive car park a few dozen (level) yards away, or you could park on one of the many unrestricted roads nearby. Budleigh town centre is mostly level and with the beach literally over the road you won't need the car unless you go off exploring.
Other things to note
PLEASE NOTE- Consideration needed, in the evenings especially, as this is an old building and not soundproof. The downstairs neighbours will be disturbed by loud conversations and heavy footsteps upstairs so please be aware of this when booking.

Also - Rubbish and recycling. I'm afraid we have to take a tough stance on this- recycling is collected every week, including food. Landfill however is only every three weeks (!?) which means we MUST insist on you recycling everything possible. Randomly chucking everything in several bin liners over a week will earn you a 'fail'!

I grew up in Budleigh and still think it's my favourite place in Devon. I live in the Cotswolds now with my husband, but still come back regularly to visit family.

Why they chose this property

I bought the flat at auction a few years ago when it was in a sadly run down state - no upstairs plumbing at all, and the kind of carpets and wallpaper that would (if they hadn't been coated in grease and nicotine) have been almost fashionable again!! It was SUCH a state that nobody else wanted it - I was the only bidder, so I 'rescued' it and spent a very hectic six months with a team of tradespeople and my long suffering hubby making it happy again.
It's now a glorious, unusual, and individual but chic and comfortable too. The location is outstanding - not right ON the beach, but as close as you can otherwise be - it's on the other side of the road.
Below the flat is a great little tea room with sunny tables outside which is great for coffee and cake, and everything in the town is just a short, level walk away.

We're also happy to accept dogs - although we do request that they stay downstairs. Much as I love them, the stair carpet doesn't. Ans please don't leave them alone at night if they're prone to whining or barking!
