About this property

GREAT location across from YMCA. Can accommodate LARGE groups

This newly built home in 2017 with a Rustic Minimalist Design is ideal for large groups and has an open air feel. It is conveniently located less than a mile from the main street in Fish Creek (across from the YMCA). It has a wooded backyard where you and your guests can have a campfire and have a cookout. There are 4 bedrooms with King beds on the main level as well as 2 bathrooms. The kitchen has a huge Rustic Island with seating for 11 as well as a Separate Dining area for 8. On the second level, there is a large bedroom with a King size bed as well as a connecting area with a bathroom and bunkbeds (perfect for a family of 4). The second level floors are plank style (wood) which adds to the character of this home, but creates an atmosphere that is not sound proof. Also on the second level is another King Bedroom, a bathroom, and an additional bedroom with two twin beds. There are two spacious living areas in this home as well as a sitting room/coffee area. All linens are provided for guests as well as bathroom towels. The home has all the amenities you need: Large refrigerator, an extra refrigerator, beverage cooler, microwave, coffee maker, Keurig, washer and dryer, dishwasher and more! Please note that this home has a two bedroom unit next to it. There is also a large home and an additional two bedroom unit in the backyard (shared driveway with this house). In no way will those units affect your stay, however some guests like to know. The home is not as private as it was prior to 2023.

Note:

Great spot for large groups

This was a great spot for our large group of varying ages! We were in town for the run and this house is super close to peninsula state park and near the shuttle services into and out of the park. There are two fridges which was great for all the food we brought in, and lots of space to dine and lots of cooking utensils for us to make dinner. Yes, the layout is different and sound does carry - we found all the kids were fine with their sound machines - I’d maybe recommend portable curtains if your kids (like mine) normally sleep in a very dark room - we brought ours and all our kids slept pretty well!

Five Day Stay

The size of the place and kitchen provisions were great. We spent every evening out at the fire pit chatting and enjoying the outdoors. The only issue we had was that sound travels easily when kids are around. The slits in the upstairs floorboards permitted quite a bit of sound to travel throughout the house, preventing people from having a quiet area. All in all, it was a great place to stay.

Our college friend get together

We are a group pf women who have been together since our College graduation 45 years ago. We meet each year at a different destination. This home was comfortable and spacious in a great llocation. Immaculately clean, and beautiful decor. Host was readily available for our questions. The coffeepot didn't work for us and a new one arrived within a very short time. Thank you.☕️

Beautiful house with a few glitches

Upon arrival, the house is beautiful. Nice design and decorations. However there were a few glitches. If we had the lights on in the kitchen, bathroom and television, the power went out. We had to reset the breaker several times. The other issue was the furnace was in the upstairs. The upstairs was 20 degrees warmer than the first floor.

The house was beautiful and spacious. We absolutely loved the size of the kitchen and island. The owner did take a long time to reply to questions until about a month prior to the trip. Then was very prompt. The two fridges (we had 12 adults) were filled for the week with groceries. The one freezer stopped working and we had to throw away 2 gallons of ice cream as well move 5 lbs of chicken and 5 lbs of ground beef to the fridge due to defrosting. The owner immediately sent someone out, who reset the filter light and said it should be good. The next morning we woke up to the meat all being warm as well as a gallon of milk and yogurt that had to be thrown out. We still had two days so had to move everything else to the other fridge while the owner purchased a new fridge. We were told we left the fridge open too long and that was the issue. The only time the fridge was opened for any extra length of time was when filling it with our groceries when we checked in or moving things to the other fridge so it wouldn’t spoil. When I asked for some compensation for the spoiled meat and dairy that we had to replace, I was told no and that we apparently dented the new fridge, which we didn’t do and weren’t even in the room for 48 hours with it.Also-the dishwasher does not dry when you set the cycles. Everything came out wet and we had to hand dry hours later. Lastly, the bunk beds are not in their own bedroom, but share with one of the king size rooms, not connected as it says.

Perfect for large group!

We had 18 female family members! Everyone agreed our VRBO was perfect! Most of the reviews will tell you about the noise issue. The owner was very upfront and honest in the description telling us about the noise. Based on the reviews we were expecting the worst. This was NOT the case. Yes, there was noise, but most people had earplugs, fans, or noise machines and we all thought the noise was not a problem. If I have to find a complaint, it would be that it could use some more hand towels and washclothes. FYI - there were 23 outdoor chairs, plenty of firewood, and gas for the grill. We brought some of our own bag chairs in case there was not enough but would not have needed to. Plenty of refrigerator space. Just an overall, unique yet beautiful and comfortable home!

More attention to cleanliness needed

Overall the space /size of the house was as expected and perfect for our family. We were disappointed in the cleanliness of the house. The bathroom floors had hair on. We needed to wash all the dishes before we used them. The grill was awful and there were cobwebs hanging all over the house. Also it was uncomfortable having the workers and trucks/landscapers walking around our house all day while working on the house directly behind us. The inner door of the washer was moldy. Also the patio door blinds in one downstairs bedroom are missing and broken. The shower heads all need to be cleaned. The first day we did ask for more firewood and that issue was resolved the next day. For the price we paid including a large cleaning fee, we were very disappointed. We didn’t reach out at that point because we wanted to focus on our vacation. We certainly left the house cleaner than when we arrived. We hope you take our feedback and pay more attention to cleanliness

Not at all what was expected

The description of this property is very misleading it mentions a very private backyard which is not true. There are 3 houses on 1 large lot. When looking out of your front door or your back door you are staring into the backyard or front yard of the other houses which are a few feet away from you. Which in itself was disappointing because the reason that we chose this property was for the privacy. Upon arriving we were met with the owner who informed us that the property directly behind us was being finished during our stay. Which if we would have known we would have canceled and booked a different property. We realize that the workers were just doing their jobs but it was very disappointing to have them walking through the property at all hours of the day. We do have young children who would have enjoyed playing outside but could not Seeing as these workers were strangers & we didn’t feel comfortable. They also started a fire to burn rubble. I did get in contact with the owner to make a few complaints about this and see if there was anything that we could do they simply told us that the property line was before the fire, (no fences or Indicators) then reminded us there was no smoking ON THE PROPERTY. Like not even outside where we watched all the their workers smoking cigarettes Daily. We were also asked to move our cars multiple times even though in the description it says we are allowed to bring six cars. Overall it was just a very inconvenient and disappointing trip.

Disappointment

The positive is the house layout. The adults stayed in the 4 bedrooms on the main floor. The kids were upstairs in 4 bedrooms. The issues: there was no warning by the owners to tell us that there would be construction going on right behind and to the side of the house we stayed at (they are building two more houses). Workers showed up at 7:30am and left 6:30pm. The noise level would be loud: banging and sawing. Plus they would start a fire to burn the excess debris. If you wanted to sit outside to relax & enjoy the peace and quiet we were expecting, it couldn't happen. The main room of the house has a wall of 4 sliding doors and windows with no window coverings & no privacy. Workers could look into the house at all times. The VRBO website description states: "a very private wooded backyard". Nope. Even though in the house description we were warned about the upstairs floors "they add character of the home that is not soundproof," be prepared as the noise travels up and down the two home levels. The description also says that the home "has all the amenities you need". In the kitchen, there were only 5 dinner forks, 6 salad forks, 3 teaspoons for up to 20 guests. You may need to bring more, along with paper towels. There was no fireplace as in the VRBO listing. When we wanted use the fire pit, there was no lighter/matches. We were told we could go buy one, really? The owners should come in and check over everything & needed supplies. Crumbs still fall in cracks.

The space is perfect for family. Although when I first booked, I thought it was right across from the park, the location is really good to get to everything in Dohr county. We had our own private fire pit and the house that runs behind us had visitors, but we felt like we had our privacy. The design of the floor does cause noise to carry throughout the spaces, but it was joyful noise, chaotic, joyful, children noise.

This house was perfect for our family reunion. We had a total of 17 people. The cousins - ages 11 - 22 enjoyed taking over the upstairs. The adults all stayed downstairs. The only problem we had was a very noisy refrigerator when the ice maker malfunctioned. The owner responded quickly and fixed the problem. They were also quick to respond when we needed extra towels and paper goods. Location was perfect - very accessible to Fish Creek and surrounding communities in Door County. Thank you for a fun vacation!!

Large space great for big group and close to town

Overall the space was great for our group. Very close to downtown fish creek, walking distance to a cute bakery/coffee shop. The floor boards are see through between each boards so you can see up or down to the rooms/bathrooms directly above or below you, which was off but overall we still enjoyed our stay and would rent again.

Descriptions not entirely accurate

While we did enjoy our stay at this property, there were things we wished we had known before we stayed. My review is intended to inform and is not necessarily criticism. We purchased $250 in steaks with the intent of grilling out as a family our first night. When we took off the cover we discovered a ‘Griddle’ not a grill as described. Imagine our disappointment, we might as well have used a pan on the stovetop. Although the fire pit was nice and large, it’s positioned next to the other rental properties which offered no privacy. Inside was an open concept alright, open to the point of seeing directly down from upper floorboards into all spaces below, including bedrooms and bathroom. We expected noise as other reviewers had mentioned but did not know lights would keep other guests awake due to shining up and down through floorboards - zero insulation. We were actually surprised it met building codes. Furnishings were very nice and comfortable as were beds and pillows. Well supplied bathrooms and kitchen. Dishwasher is awkwardly placed far from sink making you drip water across floor to load, but not a dealbreaker. Large kitchen island was a big hit! Perfect for jigsaw puzzles. Parking was interesting to say the least. Two cars were parked directly in front of our door so we were confused if we had the correct unit. Luckily the woman renting beside us came out and claimed them and told just to park wherever we could. Not enough room for 6 cars (plus her 2) for sure.

Amazing Place for Large Family

This spot was great for a large family (though, noise carries so beware!). We had so much space and didn't feel like we were piled on top of each other! The space itself was beautiful and clean and a perfect spot to lounge. The location is right near the entrance of Peninsula State Park and within a 25 minute drive of other areas like Whitefish Dunes and Cave Point. Communication with the host was easy and we resolved a broken coffee maker within one hour! Amazing. Would definitely book again.

Troy and I both grew up in a small town just outside of Green Bay. Currently we live in Wrightstown, WI. Together we have three young children.
We do own several monthly home rentals in the Green Bay and surrounding area. Fish Creek is where we built our first vacation home rental in 2012.

Why they chose this property

Door County is a favorite vacation spot in Wisconsin! We have brought our children to Fish Creek many times and we all enjoy everything about Fish Creek. There are so many fun activities to do from Camping in Peninsula State park, unique shops and fantastic restaurants.

What makes this property unique

One of the best features of our home is its location. It is so close to the restaurants and shopping, yet the home is very private. It is uniquely decorated with a beach theme that includes a canoe hanging from the ceiling! A lot of thought and a few pinterest ideas were put into this one of a kind home. Got kids coming along? This home even has a small play area just for kids! The kids can keep busy playing traditional boards games while the adults socialize on the main level at the large custom island that seats 11 people! This house is a must see. It is perfect for extended families.
