Just under 3 miles from the centre of the Victorian seaside town of Ilfracombe and 4 miles from the amazing stretches of sand and beautiful sunsets of Woolacombe, this lovely lodge enjoys fantastic countryside views and the sea in the distance. It sleeps six guests in three bedrooms - a kingsize bedroom with an en-suite shower room, a standard double, and a twin. There’s also a family bathroom. The open plan living space is bright and airy and has a TV, electric fire and patio doors leading out onto the large decking area which runs along two sides of the lodge. From here you can sit and enjoy the views while tucking into a meal or simply relax with a drink in one hand and your favourite book in the other. Parking is adjacent to the lodge and can accommodate two cars.
Ilfracombe harbour and port, which date back to at least the 12th-century offers quality ice cream, fish & chips and various craft shops and art galleries to enjoy, plus Damien Hirst’s Verity statue which is a must see. The surrounding area has many attractions waiting to be discovered such as Cairn Woodland Nature Reserve, Hillsborough and Rapperee Cove, The Torrs, Watermouth Bay and the Southwest Coast Path. Then there’s the lovely Fuchsia Valley and, for the family, Watermouth Castle and Theme Park.
Why not take a trip to Lundy Island or enjoy coastal cruises, fishing, sea-life safaris, and diving which are all available locally? Or take a trip on the Ilfracombe Princess and see seals, porpoises and sea birds nesting on the cliffs. Try your hand at sea fishing on Blue Fin or take an exhilarating tour of the amazing coastline on the Ilfracombe Sea Safari or on the Hampshire Rose, a former RNLI Lifeboat. Ilfracombe is also perfectly situated to the enjoy the countless other North Devon attractions such as the popular Tarka Trail which provides the unique opportunity to follow a disused railway line allowing you to enjoy some of Devon’s finest countryside and scenery stretching from Barnstaple through to Bideford and beyond. And then there’s Exmoor National Park, just 9 miles away and Lynton & Lynmouth, 17 miles to the east with its incredible sea views, rugged cliffs and amazing funicular cliff railway which opened in 1890 and is the highest and steepest totally water powered railway in the world!
There are several world-class beaches such as Saunton Sands, Woolacombe, Croyde and Westward Ho!, all of which are famous for their surfing qualities, vast stretches of sand and great dunes. If you don’t fancy cooking after a day out and about, then there are several good quality and popular restaurants to try out in Ilfracombe, many of which are regularly visited by locals from all over North Devon for their tasty local and ethnic fayre. Beach 3 miles.
