The property met our expectations. However, we would encourage the owner to repair the outside metal edging material which presents a tripping hazard.

Hi Katherine,
I am perplexed by this review. A one star review typically means you are very unsatisfied, but your review states that our lovely home met your expectations.
In any event, thank you for identifying the garden edging issue, we are aware of it and expect repairs to be completed shortly.
Thank you, again.

Fantastic Home for Family Gateway
Very nice house. It is spacious, clean, and nicely decorated. There was more than enough room for our family of 5 to spread out. We especially appreciated the hardwood floor throughout the house.
Fantastic location of the house just in the middle of the wooded area. Very peaceful surrounding with gorgeous views from all the windows. We felt at home in this house. We will definitely rent this house again while in Ilinois.

Beautiful wooded property
My friends and I rented the house for a week, and pretty much everything was wonderful about the house. The setting is incredible. We woke up to deer in the yard every morning. The house has 4 spacious bedrooms. The kitchen was large, and the 2 living spaces gave us options to hang out in.
Only negatives were we had some ants in one of the bedrooms for a day or two. The dishwasher is dark brown from the hard water and needs to be replaced.
Owner was attentive and answered questions quickly. Great place to stay!

We are very glad that you enjoyed our home. We have a very good pest management service and I'm surprised the ants got past them, but the service seems to have resolved the issue. All of the homes in the area are on well water, which contains healthy amounts of Iron that can darken some appliances. We washed the dishwasher with vinegar that removed most of the water stains.

Idyllic country home for a weekend away
I stayed in this house with a few friends for a weekend away. It was gorgeous. The view from the back windows alone was enough to make us never want to leave! The house was very clean and had everything we needed. The host was responsive when I had a question. The only caution I have for potential renters is make sure you have a 4WD or AWD vehicle if you are coming when it might snow. My friend with a sedan got stuck and ended up sliding off the side of the driveway and we had a tough time getting her out.

We are very glad that you enjoyed our home. We have a snow removal team that is usually very prompt, I do apologize for the invconvenience you experienced.
The highlight of the house was the hot tub! We LOVED it! We were in it each evening and it was awesome! The home was spacious and comfortable. It was awesome they had some personal hygiene items along with water at check it. The unfortunate issues was driveway was wash out and it was challenging for one of our cars. Maybe spraying for bugs to control them would have been nice too. It is a very private property which was awesome but with that comes lots of bugs which we experienced outside and ants inside. Otherwise we had an amazing time it it served us well. Thank you Clay! We would stay again for sure!

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. And thank you for the notes on the driveway and the bugs. The good news is that the driveway is scheduled to be paved as soon as it stops raining and we do spray for Mesquitoes every three weeks, so these issues are short-lived. Thank you for taking such great care of our home, we would love to host you all again. Clay
This house was perfect for our 10 day stay. There were 3 adults and 3 teen baseball players, and we all had plenty of room. The kitchen and laundry room got a lot of use.
The drive in and out of the property was beautiful and we loved being in horse country. We saw deer most days.
The electronic door lock made life easy, and the TVs in each room were very nice to have, though we could not figure out how to use the Fubo account. We basically used our Netflix and Amazon accounts. It would have been nice to get some local TV , but I just didn’t make the time to contact the owner to help us. When we did communicate with Clay, he was very responsive.
WiFi was excellent.
The master bath was spacious with great water pressure and plenty of hot water. Towels were plentiful and appreciated. The downstairs area with the big TV was great for the boys and their PlayStations.
We did have to buy a large pot and cake pan, but those seemed to be the only items the kitchen didn’t have. Otherwise, it was really well stocked.
We did use the hot tub (even though it was July). We had some sore athletes, and it was really nice for them to relax in. It worked perfectly.
We spent some time in Barrington itself and had great food at Neoteca, great coffee at Conscious Cup, an amazing breakfast at Egg Harbor, incredible chocolates at Anderson Chocolates, and cold beers at McGonigal’s Pub.
I grew up about an hour from here, but never actually spent much time in this area. It was a lot of fun exploring around the nearby towns when we weren’t watching the boys play baseball.
There were plenty of indoor games at our disposal, which we did use. One suggestion…It would have been nice to have had some fishing poles to use in all the nearby lakes.
All in all, the house was perfect for us. We truly appreciated the cleanliness and little welcoming extras that were supplied for us.
Thank you to Clay and his family.
This trip was everything promised: a serene woodland escape. Perfect for our family. Clay responded to any concerns quickly and we hope to come back again soon.
My family and I had great time celebrating Thanksgiving here!!! The house is well stocked and tucked away for complete privacy. I would love to come back for another getaway with my girlfriends next time.
This property is perfect for a family or group of friends. The kitchen is well stocked and the beds are comfortable. We enjoyed the wood burning fireplace every night and our dog loved going for runs in the horse corral. Great stay - thanks!
We had a fabulous stay here, in a beautiful home in a country setting. The rolling hills and surrounding horse farms are picturesque. The dogs had a blast too!
There is very little to rent in the Barrington area. This house is out in the country away from it but still only about 10-15 minutes from town. Its in a very pretty neighborhood , many homes with horses.
Loved our stay here! Lots of space to roam but tons of places to gather. We had a blast walking around, playing games, hanging out on the porches and hot tub, and gathered by the fire. Definitely a bucolic neighborhood, but close enough to town to order a pizza! :) Would absolutely stay here again!
My husband and I very much enjoyed our stay. The house is beautiful and is tucked away in the woods within a gorgeous horse-country neighborhood. At the same time, it’s very close to restaurants, shops, and interesting little towns. Or if you want more nature there are a number of parks, preserves, and lakes. You can also easily get to Chicago on the train. The house was very roomy, comfortable, and clean. Clay was a terrific host and we highly recommend the property.
We stayed here with another family for our family reunion and it was wonderful. Amazing playroom for the kids, fully stocked kitchen with kid friendly dishes, games, kid books, plenty of of space for everyone, and a beautiful outdoor space. Beds were very comfortable, plenty of extra towels, TP, paper towels, etc. I think the only thing we had to run out and buy was something to lite the grill which we left there for the next guests. I would definitely reccomend this VRBO for anyone, but especially if you're traveling with kids.
One of the best places we’ve ever stood. It had a play room that my kids did not want to get out of a hot tub the teenagers loved and we saw deer every day. Life was good & peaceful for us this vacation even though I had heart aurgery. If you’re coming for any medical procedure to recover it is the best place to recover & quiet.
Property was lovely. Perfect for a girls weekend. We enjoyed the remote “away from everything” feel of the property. Ladies loved the hot-tub & the small porch off the kitchen. Plenty of space for the eight of us to spread out and come together for some amazing meals at the large table in the dining room. Really a lovely stay
My family and I enjoyed staying at the lovely home. It is very spacious and open. My teens enjoyed the hot tub most of all. We will definitely rent the property again when visiting family and friends.
We had a great time staying here. We loved being able to bring our dogs and being able to walk them by all the beautiful horse farms. The kitchen and master shower were great!
My family rented this property for a short term rental, we needed a temporary residence while moving from out of state. Communication was excellent, house was exactly what we needed space wise, it was clean, fully stocked kitchen.
The property was a prefect escape from reality and gave a place for my boys to run and play. We all enjoyed watching and listening to nature, which was all around use. Very private secluded lot.
We wanted a quiet getaway, and we got one! The fireplace is beautiful; we used it daily with the wood provided. The grownups enjoyed the hot tub. The kids loved the play room, which is geared towards younger kids (6 and under). Kitchen is well-stocked and allowed us to cook in many meals. Agree with other reviewers that beds could stand to be updated as we only found one to be comfortable. Overall, great place and enjoyable stay.
A beautiful home with plenty of space - quiet woodsy setting - perfect for a get away with everything you need! Homeowner was extremely accommodating and responsive to communication. Highly recommend!
Clay hosted our family for a month while we transitioned into a new home. He was very responsive throughout the process. Our kids loved their playroom!
We were looking for a covid safe getaway from the city and this delivered! I was worried that since barrington is still a suburb it wouldn’t feel like a getaway, but the location was great! It was super quiet, surrounded by woods, and you can’t see any other neighbors.
Check in was easy and clay was super responsive and made sure we had everything we needed. We felt safe and the property was well cleaned. Both the fireplace and hot tub were in great condition and made for a great end of winter getaway. We’ll definitely look to stay again!
Only feedback would be that three of the four beds were really uncomfortable. The blue room downstairs had the best bed, which was fine for the two of us since we only needed one room and bed. A heads up that the driveway is gravel and decently plowed but can have some icy spots, and other than the front walkway other paths and stairs weren’t well shoveled and I fell down a couple times taking my dog for a walk (love that it was pet friendly though!)
