About this property

Connemara Stone Barn on Wild Atlantic Way, walk to beach, near Aran Island Ferry

Suitable for families or for two sets of friends or for a romantic getaway, Teach na mBo is in a beautiful part of the Connemara National Park and close to the start of the Connemara Loop. The Wild Atlantic Way runs down our small lane to our local pier half a mile from the cottage, where we have one of the best views out to the Aran Islands and the cliffs of Moher.

Our large, spacious, traditional, 2 bedroom cottage, situated on our small working farm, combines the traditional cosiness of a thick-walled stone cottage with all the requirements of modern home living - including free fast fibre WiFi. PLEASE NOTE THIS PROPERTY IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 5. Perfect for autumn/winter staycation or working from home change of scene.

The main living area is open-plan with wooden floors, beams and a turf-burning stove which gives off the tantalising smell of Connemara. Turf (peat) is provided. Patio doors open out onto the small paved walkway to the house and give views of the shared garden and out towards fields bounded by the traditional stone walls found in this part of Ireland.

The main living space also includes a dining table seating four. Our fully equipped, contemporary kitchen area has granite worktops and the integrated appliances you would expect from a home of this quality, including hob, fan- oven, microwave, and dishwasher. A comfortable sofa, chairs and lovely soft furnishings complete the look. A small flat-screen TV is provided with satellite freeview channels, Irish channels and a dvd/blueray player.

The wooden floor is carried through to Bedroom 1, which has a traditional cast-iron framed, Kingsize bed with hotel quality mattress, topper and all bedding. There are plenty of built-in wardrobes and a hotel-style tiled, large en-suite with bath and large, separate shower.

Bedroom 2 is accessed via a flight of steep stone steps down to a twin room - again with high quality soft furnishings and bedding. This room also has a hotel-style, tiled en-suite shower room.

There is also a US-style laundry cupboard housing a new washing machine and separate condenser dryer.

Outside there is a dedicated parking space and extra parking in the shared farm yard - access to a garden, a small paved area, a BBQ and outside eating space with table and chairs.

We have aimed to provide a home-from-home Staycation and you are welcome to help yourself to anything else you might need from our garage which contains a shared table tennis table. If available you can borrow stuff for the beach - chairs, portable BBQ, fishing nets for rock-pooling - just help yourself.

Comfortable and well appointed - great base for Galway and Connemara

A really lovely stay in a converted barn/cow shed. Janet and Michael were really helpful when we needed them, and it was a great base for either East to Galway city and beyond or north to the Connemara hills on the Atlantic coast. Super little beach just 20 mins walk down the road too. Would recommend.

Lovely home on the wild Atlantic

We enjoyed the home and the surrounds. Had a lovely walk to the beach one morning and the land surrounding the home is gorgeous. This house was comfortable and clean. It is remote so be prepared to make most of your food. I wish the host was more clear with cleaning expectations so we could have matched those expectations better.

Teach na mBo

The accommodation is an old cow barn that has been converted into living quarters. Wow, they did an amazing job on it. It’s an exceptionally nice place to stay. And it comes equipped with a Border Collie for entertainment. The kindness and thoughtfulness of the owner is great, too. She had cake ready for us when we arrived. We highly recommend Teach na mBo for a base to explore Connemara.

Perfect location to explore Connemara and a lovely property, beautifully renovated for a most comfortable stay. Lovely hosts with great suggestions and a playful dog to make us feel at home. We particularly loved fly fishing at Ballynahinch Castle (Hugh as our guide), exploring the Killary fjord area (scenic cruise was nice) and Kylemore Abbey, the ferry to Aran islands. The seafood at O’Grady’s was delicious yet also try the beef and lamb in this region…outstanding!! We got groceries at the Costcutters to cook our own amazing steak burgers. We came here after Dingle; loved both but particularly the rugged beauty of the Connemara.

Idyllic, Dreamy, and Relaxing

Our stay was idyllic, dreamy, and fully relaxing. First, Janet and Michael are exceptionally warm and gracious. They made us feel welcome and right at home and were attentive to our comfort. The property is absolutely charming with beautiful cottage garden spaces and a lovely view from the all windows. Riley, the sweet, gentle, herding dog, greeted us often with her smiling face. The cottage is in the most beautiful area, with stunning walks to the beach, past lovely herds of cows, sheep, and a few ponies and friendly neighborhood cats and dogs. A wonderful, fully-stocked market is just a 10-minute walk away. We were pleased to find many gluten free selections. The cottage itself was very comfortable and exceptionally clean. Beds were very firm and comfortable, showers were great, and the kitchen was a delight to cook in. We sat outside mornings and evenings with coffee or meals and enjoyed the beautiful garden and fresh, clean air. It’s a short drive from the cottage to many exciting places to see. The Wild Atlantic Way is truly spectacular. We spent three weeks at this unforgettable place and were truly sad to leave. We hope we can return someday to stay here again or to try Janet and Michael’s gorgeous Connemara Glamping, if we bring our extended family along with us. We can’t thank our hosts enough for their warm hospitality. It was truly a relaxing and restorative trip. We offer our highest recommendation for this stay.

Great Connemara Cottage

We really enjoyed everything about our stay at the Cow’s House. It has just about everything you’d need while on your trip. It’s very quiet in the area with just beautiful surroundings. It was super easy to find, and a great starting location to venture out into the west of Ireland.

Amazing cottage and hosts!

Terrific cottage away from the bustle of Galway, but close enough to do tours or shop. Janet and Michael are amazing hosts, friendly and knowledgeable (thank you both for your hospitality! Give Riley a pet for me, loved playing fetch with the little sticks she brought me) Close access to a local grocery (short walk), and a very “local” pub a bit further.
