The house is located in the Gers region (43°35'03.6"N 0°12'10.7"E). It is still a little-known region full of hidden gems, both culturally and in terms of nature. To the French themselves, the Gers is known as the “French Tuscany,” with rolling, colourful hills dotted with sunflowers and hidden villages. Culinary-wise, the Gers is known for its foie gras, duck breast, Madiran wines, Floc de Gascogne, Pousse-Rapière, local Saint-Mont wines, and, of course, Armagnac. So if you love wine, the good French life, sunflowers, and the vast, green, rolling countryside, you absolutely must head to southwestern France: the undiscovered Tuscany of France.
You’re relatively close to the rugged and spectacular west coast, where you can dip your toes in the sand on the beach at Biarritz, about a 2-hour drive away. The bustling east coast is also relatively close, just a 3-hour drive away. Within two hours, you’ll be at the foot of the Pyrenees in the south.
The garden features several unique flowering trees, oleanders, and roses. The forest behind it spans 19 hectares. From the garden, you can walk straight into the forest, where you’ll come across a treehouse in a centuries-old oak along the way. At the front of the house, there’s also a pond where you can hear green frogs croaking in the spring. There are several covered, shaded patios at the front, south, and southwest sides of the house where you can sit or eat. The garden also features various seating areas and hammocks where you can relax and forget all your stress.
The heated pool is generously sized: 12.5 metres by 5 metres and 2.3 metres deep, with a jet stream at one end. The pool features coloured underwater LED lighting, and there is ambient lighting around the pool, near the lounge set, and by the gazebo. Next to the pool is a sun deck with lounge chairs, sunbeds, and palm trees providing shade. Near the pool is a spa hot tub that seats 8 people; the hot tub is illuminated by LED lights and heated by a wood-burning fireplace. From the hot tub, you can enjoy the beautiful starry sky in the evening.
Every year during the last weeks of July and the first week of August, the world-famous jazz festival takes place in Marciac, just an 8-minute drive from the house via small country roads.
The house features a stunning tower room with a ceiling height of 6.5 metres. The living room flows into the dining room, which features a dining table for 8 people. Adjacent to this is the kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with a 6-burner Smeg stove, a large oven, a small refrigerator, a standard coffee maker, and a Nespresso coffee machine with a milk frother. The utility room contains a side-by-side refrigerator with an ice maker, a microwave, and a washing machine and dryer. Outside, adjacent to the dining room, is a covered patio with a table that seats 10, an outdoor fireplace, and a pizza oven. From this patio, there is a view of the garden and the valley. On clear days, the beautiful white peaks of the Pyrenees are clearly visible.
The house has 3 bedrooms with double beds, 2 bathrooms, and 2 toilets. One of the bedrooms has an extra single bed (adult size). The master bedroom has its own small bathroom and an adjoining room with a large closet and a bunk bed (adult size). In total, the house can accommodate 6 adults and 3 children.
The house is also pet-friendly.
The pool will be closed from November through April.
