About the host
Hosted by Charlotte

We live in Mathern Palace and have lovingly restored and modernised The Potting Shed for short term holiday rentals. Having lived in the area for a long period of time, we can provide bundles of information about the local area and where to explore. We like our guests to feel home from home and provide lots of privacy during their stay. We're here to help but not to intrude on your holiday and we aim to make it as cosy and as welcoming as possible to ensure you have a great time!
Why they chose this property
We love Mathern and Mathern Palace Cottages for the history which dates as far back as 600AD. The land was occupied by King Twedric, a warrior king who drove English invaders out of Wales in a battle at Tintern. The church visible from the cottages was built in King Tewdrics honour and is still a local church parish.
The cottages are located at the end of Mathern Village; a pretty, quiet and community village with idyllic walks and outdoors to explore.
Mathern has great transport connections and can be accessed by the M48 and close to the M4 and M5. It takes roughly 30 minutes to drive to Bristol, 30 minutes to Newport and you can reach Cardiff in under an hour. It's the ideal staycation with something for everyone close by.

What makes this property unique
The Potting Shed is on the grounds of Mathern Palace, a Grade I listed building in the village of Mathern, Monmouthshire, Wales, located some 3 miles (4.8 km) south-west of Chepstow close to the Severn Estuary. If you love history then you'll love exploring Mathern and it's surrounding areas. St Tewdric's church stands beautifully in the heart of Mathern and can be admired on the approach to The Potting Shed. The Church dates back to the 6th century, and was built in honor of King Twedrig who died in battle in 630.
