Region: The West of Ireland conjures up many images; thatched, whitewashed cottages, a flock of sheep on a narrow road, an emerald green field with a stone wall, or the Atlantic waves crashing into towering cliffs and rocky shores.
Town: On the northernmost point of the County Donegal coast, the settlement of Gortahork is becoming a more well-liked surfing and trekking destination. The region has a number of lovely beaches, and the village hosts the annual Samhain International Poetry Festival. With 16,000 acres, Glenveagh National Park is a walkers' paradise and is easily reachable from Gortahork. In 1980, the well-known artist Derek Hill left his home, gallery, and art collection to the country. The property also includes the Glebe Gallery and Tea Rooms, which regularly stages exhibitions. Visit the neighbouring Bunbeag, which has a spa and swimming pool, or the An Chuirt Hotel, which is located at the base of the Errigal Mountain and has a health club and spa of its own. Arranmore, Cruit Island, and Owey Island may all be visited from Gortahork by chartering a boat. Island hopping is enjoyable for the whole family. Although Cruit Island is easily accessible by car thanks to a bridge connecting it to the mainland, renting a boat is considerably more fun! The nearby town of Dungloe, which is known for its excellent fishing, hosts the yearly "Mary From Dungloe" event. This is a fantastic location and a terrific home base for exploring the region.
