Great location 10 minutes from Ludlow, VT (Okemo), 20 minutes from Killington area, and 30 minutes from Rutland, Springfield, and Woodstock. Comfortable country home with updated kitchen/baths used for many years by vacationing/skiing families.
Just off of Rt 100N, the house is located at the southern end of Echo Lake with a "drop dead, gorgeous" view of the lake from the front porch. Easy in and out in winter weather. New kitchen and appliances in spring 2022 - new master bath in 2023. Walking distance (10 minutes) to 2 fine dining locations and an idyllic, small country church. Swimming beach with gentle, sandy entry, dock, boats, kayaks, paddleboards, float...and 60 acres in back for hiking and exploring ... all that is needed for a great summer vacation. In winter, skating on lake in front...hills for kids' sliding....and, year around there are the woods in back for hiking, snowshoeing, and enjoying nature with great hiking/walking possibilities.

This beautiful home in Echo Lake was perfect. My 93 year old mother in-law said she felt like she was in the"Lap of luxury" in the master bedroom. We enjoyed using the canoe and kayak on the lake and loved watching the sun set. It was definitely our favorite place this trip. The only thing lacking was shampoo, which wouldn't have been a problem if we had known ahead.
The property was exactly as pictured and described. It had a lot of charm, history, nice updates, and plenty of room! The lake view out of the front window was spectacular! We were there for a family wedding at Echo Lake Inn which we walked to, it was that close. The owner, Jim, was onsite to greet us and help with anything we needed. Very friendly, and he supplied the home with everything you could need. I would highly recommend his VRBO!

What a spectacular day for the wedding ... glad everything went well. We appreciate your comments and were very glad that all went well in the house. Hope that you might return to New England again.

Magnificent view of Echo Lake - cars kept stopping to take pictures- and our very own beach to enjoy. Quaint home with plenty of room for our 7 people including two 2-year-olds. Our host could not have been more helpful. Great fishing, boating, and wonderful local sights. Don’t miss Buttermilk Falls
My family had a great time. We would go here again. Kids enjoyed the fishing, swimming, jumping off the dock, playing in the sand, using the kayaks, canoe and paddle boats. The house had all the essentials. Lots of things to do in the area. The view from the house and deck is amazing. Family and neighbors were friendly and had great suggestions for things to do.
This house was prefect.
Just a crossing to the lake. The best view possible for morning coffee, and water toys for all ages to enjoy. We swam or played on the lake for hours with a picnic lunch, even went out early for some fishing and caught a bass. Quiet. Relaxing and enjoyable vacation.

This was a great place to stay for a post-flood Ludlow vacation. We wanted to support the area that has so much need right now and we are glad we did. The home was great for our family with two nicely renovated bathrooms and a well equipped renovated kitchen. Because the lake was unusable due to bacteria from the flood, we could not make use of the many boating options offered at this property, but there is a wonderful beach area where we sat admiring the unparalleled view! Easy access to Route 100 to Ludlow or north to Woodstock and beyond.
The place has a million dollar view of the lake. We spent many relaxing hours on the porch admiring it. The beds were the most comfortable we've slept in. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the essentials and there were plenty of outdoor activities. The owner, caretaker, and neighbors were very friendly and helpful. We loved that the rental was located within 5 miles of restaurants and stores to pick up any needed essentials.
The only downsides were having to cross a rather busy road to get to the beach (but well worth it) and there were a lot of horseflies and bees at the beach, so bring plenty of bug repellent.

Great to meet you and gl;ad you had a good week. I am sorry that the bees and flies werw present at the waterfront .... we will work to see what we can do to chase them away. Hope to see you again on Echo Lake...the view will be here waiting for you!

The location of the property was perfect. Beautiful little beach for our 3 year old and great views. The house is across the road and it is a fast road so we had to be very careful with our grandchild. Jim was very attentive and we had plenty of sheets and towels. Since we were there for two weeks he came with clean sheets and towels in the middle of our stay. The interior of the house ,however, needs a makeover. It was spacious but very tired and unattractive. Could also use a couple of more chairs on the front porch, and there is really no outdoor space for a child to play on the property until yo cross the road.

We are pleased that the location worked for you but disappointed that we did not meet your expectations regarding the family homestead. A planned renovation of the kitchen for spring of 2021 was put on hold until spring of 2022 by contractor due to supplies and time constraints...and guest commitments starting in June. We will continue to work to improve the interior to provide a more acceptable look. Thank you for your helpful input.
We love southern Vermont and have stayed in the area many times. But this was our first time staying at Jim’s home. It was the perfect space for our annual family vacation. The location could not be better and the view is spectacular! It looks out at the whole of the lake and you can see the water from most of the house as well as the wonderful front porch. We played many games of Yahtzee at the dining room table - another great view of the lake.
Jim is a very thoughtful host, welcoming us personally and with a bottle of wine. The house was well-stocked with all the sundries - plenty of soap (laundry, hand, dish), paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, garbage bags, etc. unlike some places we’ve stayed.
It’s a steep path down to the beautiful lake area. If you are concerned about mobility, make sure you talk with Jim. The lakefront is stocked with great amenities including a pedal boat, kayaks, and stand up paddle boards. The renovated kitchen was a great place to cook and the renovated bathrooms were very nice. We had a 9 month old with us and the house worked well for her too.
My only advice is that the road in front is a busy one so you’ll want to keep an eye on younger kids when they are crossing to the water.
Thank you, Jim, for a wonderful visit! We hope to return!

Ann ...
Thank you for your very thoughtful and complete review of our place. We appreciate your kind comments. We do strive to provide what vacationers need to enjoy their stays. We certainly do hope that you chose to return to Echo Lake and our family homestead.
thank you,
Jim
We spent a week here with 4 adults, and 4 teens. It was awesome! Jim was super friendly and helpful. The old house layout is a little wonky, as to be expected of an old home but we loved the charm of it.
We were welcomed by a handwritten note, fresh flowers, and a bottle of wine - all unexpected nice touches!
We spent most of our time down by the water using the kayaks, canoe, and paddleboard. Lots of chairs and the canopy for shade made it our favorite spot. The views were incredible from the house, too. A couple times we could have used more life jackets but made it work ok.
The house is spacious and well kept. The comfy king beds were much appreciated by the adults! Having USB outlets on the lamps was helpful. The kitchen is small but very functional and beautifully renovated.
The only minor disappointing thing was that the downstairs shower shower liner needed to be cleaned. It is a very narrow shower/tub and would have been more enjoyable with a curved shower rod so it feels wider. The water pressure was great though in that bathroom. The upstairs shower pressure wasn't as good.
The house had plenty of beach towels for us all. There are lots of games in the cabinet. We made good use of the washer and dryer and appreciated having detergent available.
We recommend checking out Buttermilk Falls, Green Mountain Sugar House, Plymouth Cheese, Calvin Coolidge Historic Site, Thunder Falls, and Off the Rails while you're in the area.

Angie..
Thank you for your comprehensive and thoughtful review of your stay at the lake. We will correct the shower situation ... our apologies to you for the curtain condition. We will also look into changing to a new, expanded rod for more comfort. We have increased the number of adult life jackets as we were not aware there was a shortage - thank you for pointing it out to us.
As the upstairs bath has just been fully renovated, we are surprised about the low water pressure in the shower. That will be addressed and corrected. Please know that your kind comments and helpful suggestions for improvement are very much appreciated.
We hope that you chose to return to the lake and will stay with us again.
Regards,
Jim
This lake house sits atop a hill with great Mountain and Lake View’s. It also has a Sandy beach area with easy lake access, floating dock, kayaks, canoes and a cabana area. It wa a great and I recommend this house for large families.
Thank you for visiting the lake area .... we hope you enjoyed your week here and that you are able to take some of the bright, fall colors back in your memories to Montana with you.
Thanks for visiting us .... we hope that your group had an enjoyable stay and all had safe trips back to the many corners of the country ... long journeys to make your reunion.
Our photography group needed a home away from home for a Vermont Fall Foliage week, and this property checked all the boxes. Cozy and non-pretentious, plenty of space for the 6 of us, great communication from the property owner, fabulous view of Echo Lake and everything we needed to have a relaxing vacation getaway. We look forward to booking again!

We had a wonderful time at this property. It was a nice private location but close enough to major areas for our hiking and day adventures. And that view...it’s beautiful!

Jim was an absolutely perfect host. Communication was great and he lives nearby so he was there to answer any questions we had. We talked with him several times and he was one of those rare, genuine people that you can say right away is truly a great guy. We felt like family staying there.
The house was exactly as described, a beautiful old homestead complete with original ceiling beams and fireplace and additions to the original home obvious and reminiscent of when they were done. The house was also immaculately cleaned and maintained top to bottom.
While the beauty of the old home was everything we expected, all of the modern touches that are important to a comfortable stay were there. All of the kitchen appliances were new and the towels and linens were all plush and luxurious.
The view overlooking the lake was phenomenal. The kids and I went out on the lake canoeing and row boating every day we stayed. They loved it.
I would absolutely recommend renting this home to anyone.
We spent the week watching the breathtaking view and enjoying the quiet. We had a good time and homeowner and house maintenance guy were great very accommodating.
We had a great week on Echo lake. The property was beautiful and well maintained. The beach area and access to boats was great. The Ludlow area is very nice. We would definitely visit again.
We had an excellent family week at Echo Lake. Plenty to do and felt very safe. The home has the most amazing view. There were plenty of life vests and boats (3 kayaks, canoe, paddle boat) for all of us to use. The breeze in the evening kept us cool at night and the lake kept us cool in the day. We had an excellent time!

Great family house in perfect location
We had a great time at the lake! The house was perfect for our family and friends, accommodating all kids and adults comfortably. After being greeted by a gift basket and kind owner, we spent the week enjoying everything the house and lake had to offer: canoeing, kayaking, swimming, s'mores by the fire, and more! Thank you for sharing your home with us! We hope to come back again!

About the host
Hosted by Jim Tepper
I am a retired business executive and US Marine Corps helicopter pilot. My 2 sons and I manage our family homestead property. I stay involved with local government and civic organizations: Rotary Club, Veteran's Advisory Board, Printing Industry Scholarship Fund and other boards. Our family thoroughly enjoys our time in Vermont at our separate house close-by as well as extensive time on the lake.
Why they chose this property
Comfortable family homestead enjoyed for many years by family and guests. Relaxing environment with the "Million Dollar View" of the lake from the rockers on the porch ... enjoy morning coffee and take in the breathtaking view. Easy in/out driveway close to main road for ease in wintertime. Great outdoor activities ...beauriful calm lake for swimming, boating, and fishing in the summer and in winter ... sledding/snowshoeing/skating/etc. ... and of course 2 top class ski areas in Okemo and Killington.
What makes this property unique
Breathtaking view from the dining room/living room/porch looking north across the entire lake toward the mountains to the north. sun and shadows constantly change the image making for a pleasant viewing experience with a glimpse of our lake eagle from time to time.
