About this property
Cosy romantic stay in historic Cotswold cottage
Relax in a cosy newly renovated Cotswold cottage on the edge of Bath. The Old Fire Station is a self-contained holiday cottage in the historic and picturesque village of Colerne.
Situated in the old village, Cotswold walks and hiking paths are on the doorstep leading to Castle Combe, Bath and beyond; two local pubs and a cafe and metres away.
The award-winning Lucknam Park spa and its new Walled Garden Restaurant are within walking distance if you fancy a treat. The village has a Post Office, Newsagent, General Food Store and two local pubs.
The unique coach house style cottage, built around 1740, was once the village fire station, and provides garage parking or on street parking outside the property, which is a rare find for the village.

We've lived in Colerne for 13 years, and have been planning the renovation of the Old Fire Station ever since we moved here from Bath. I work on an art and design website, and previously worked in magazine journalism.
Julie creates designer quilts and memory quilts for clients globally. We love village life, the walks and runs around the Colerne area, as well as travelling to find new and unique places.

Why they chose this property
We moved from London to be closer to family, and lived in Bath for a while before deciding to move to the quieter village life. We love how friendly Colerne is, the pubs are fantastic and the food at Lucknam Park is wonderful (as a treat).
The areas's walks are fantastic and we often ramble to Castle Combe, Ford for lunch and into Bath for a longer hike.

What makes this property unique
This coach house style cottage would originally store the village's horse-drawn fire cart and would be taken to the well at the bottom of Watergates to fill up. At some point in the last 200-plus years the Old Fire Station at Colerne, ironically, caught fire and for years was left unused. When we bought it the building was in poor condition, it didn't even have a floor or stairs.
We worked with local builders expert in restoring old Bath and Cotswold buildings. We began by rebuilding the internal walls, staircase, and top floor. The curves of the unique roof remain intact, as do some of the quirks that come with an old cottage, including large but low windows and uneven walls.
It took almost a year to rebuild the cottage and we love it, and we think our guests will too!
