Gavalochori is a small traditional village, 26 km East from Chania city, in an area of great natural beauty .A short scenic drive, 3.5 km takes you down to the resort of Almyryda. The village is 5 minutes walk and offers 3 tavernas and kafenions plus 2 supermarkets. The area of Gavalochori and the wider Apokoronos are steeped in history with Venetian Wells and a pre-industrial olive press a few minutes walk. Other historic sites include the fort at Aptera (16km) .
