About this property
Secluded Retreat. Perfect for West Point Families! Gourmet Kitchen!
Spend any time of year in the Hudson Valley at your own country retreat! The NY outdoors is open - biking and hiking trails near by plus your own fire pit ready for smores every night! Stay during a beautiful snow storm - hey who doesn’t love a good snowball fight? Escape the lights, traffic and crowds of the city - see the stars!
Any stays over 30 days are tax-free! Inquire for details.
Step back in time – stay in a piece of history - Colden house was built in circa 1770-1780s! A home that has stood for centuries now and with a little more TLC will be fully restored to last another 240 years. We have been so impressed at the craftsmanship we uncover every time we begin a new corner of restoration - a federal post and beam to the core! While you'll see some corners of renovations are still underway, this home is a very special retreat and a relaxing and comfortable space to enjoy! You, as our guests will be supporting it's preservation!
Enjoy the serenity you would expect from a country property while still conveniently located near the things you want to do. Only minutes from restaurants, groceries, Stewart International Airport, Beacon Metro-North train station not to mention the fun stuff like biking trails at Stewart Forest, hiking trails, Hudson Valley wine trails, Angry Orchard, Storm King Art Center and more. West Point families are only a 30 minute drive from the front gate.
Families will find Colden House a great place to reunite! Share this family homestead where you'll have memorable dinners around the table in the large dining room. Afterwards, head out to the large fire pit ready for a beautiful night under the stars - can't you taste the smores? Yum!
We are a great central base for Bethel tours! Only 25 minutes to Watchtower Farms, 45 minutes to the Watchtower Educational Center, and 45 minutes to the World Headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses - tour all day and return to a peaceful place where you can rejuvenate and be ready for more the next day.
Stay in a home where you enjoy the amenities of modern life but can fully appreciate what life must have been like in early America. The Colden family was an interesting part of American history and played a significant role in colonial America. (Jane Colden is a favorite of ours!). This house belonged to Thomas, sheriff of Ulster County and grandson of the Lt. Governor of New York. Later a part of what once was the Alex Campbell Milk Co. in the late 1800's, Colden House continued to play a significant role in Hudson Valley history.
Bedrooms:

Blue Spruce Room (second floor) Quaint room with wide plank wood floor, queen-size bed, comfy chair to relax in, small secretary/desk, large closet, on-suite bath with tub/shower, pass-through to the Morning View room
Morning View Room (second floor) Spacious room with wide plank wood floor, 3 bright windows, queen-size bed, two twin-size beds, comfy chair, pass-through to the Blue Spruce room, non-working fireplace
Maple View Room (second floor) Spacious room with wide plank wood floor, 3 bright windows, queen-size bed with memory foam for comfy night’s sleep, comfy chair and love seat, large closet, non-working fireplace
Sunset View Room (second floor) Spacious room with wide plank wood floor, window overlooking the wooded glen, four poster queen-size bed, and comfy chair.
Huge living, and dining room with 10 foot custom farmhouse table (reclaimed wood salvaged from wooden silos that once stood at the end of the barn) and kitchen on the main floor with full bath (shower) and washer/dryer.
Fully equipped GOURMET kitchen with 48” Wolf six burner gas cooktop with griddle, 2 Sub-Zero fridges with 4 freezer drawers and ice maker, 2 dishwashers, Wolf double oven, blender, coffee maker, toaster, pots & pans and all the essentials. Granite island with farmhouse sink. Beverage sink with filtered water tap for both cold and instant hot water. Luxurious soapstone countertops complete the space with a vintage feel.
The amazing front porch is a perfect spot for a leisure morning coffee, overlooking huge yard and woods - watch for deer & wild turkeys! On rare occasions a fox has been known to pass by and in the evenings you could hear the owls in the woods!
Our personal residence is also on the 30-acre property so we are close by in case you need anything! But we have great respect for your privacy as well and will do our best to make this a perfect get-away for you and your group!

About the host
Hosted by Colden House

We've been married over 30 years now and have enjoyed several adventures along the way! Colden House is our newest adventure and we love this old place. We have been so impressed at the craftsmanship we uncover every time we begin a new corner of restoration. And Cory is doing an amazing job of restoring and preserving the original history here while making it a comfortable home to enjoy! We always knew we were attracted to historic places, but didn't know how much we appreciated them until now.
Everything from the hand-hewn timbers to the wide plank flooring has needed a bit of love but with some ingenuity and care, they are being saved! We hope the barn can someday become a venue for memorable events - We would have been married in a place like this if we could have! We will keep working toward that goal and thank everyone staying at Colden House - you are contributing to saving this piece of history ;-)
Hope to meet you soon!
