About this property
Upside Down ,cosy one bedroomed gite ,10 minutes walk into town / countryside.
Charming, airy self-contained renovated one bedroomed gite .
As one of our guests described it as 'an upside down house'
Cosy bedroom for peaceful nights and open plan living room with dual facing views of the countryside to sit and relax.
With stunning views of the sunrise (if you're up!) or the sunset, watching the world go by and relaxing in the stillness and peace.
Self contained kitchen/dining area with cooker, oven, microwave and dishwasher. Plenty of space for preparing bread, wine and cheese or to cook meals at your leisure.
Quiet, with its own outside area for sitting with a glass of something planning your next adventure in the area or reminiscing about the day's adventure.
Smoke detector in place for your safety.
The area is rich in history ,from William the Conqueror to WW2.
Mortain-Bocage played an important part in the counter-offensive and this is commemorated every year.
If scenery and countryside are important then the gite is situated at the edge of a national park, offering fabulous walks and cycle trips on the Voie Verte .
The beautiful stunning beaches for Granville, Julloville and St Pair Sur Mer are an hour away.
Mortain Bocage has cafes, boulangeries and other amenities to make your stay memorable.
The Grande & Petite Cascades are the largest waterfalls in this part of France and offer beautiful walks and photo opportunities.
La Petite Chapelle is worth a visit ,along with Hill 314 (this still has evidence from the counter attack in 1944).
With relatively quiet roads, driving further afield, through beautiful scenery, is a great joy. Watching the endless fields and driving through peaceful villages, you can go back in time and wonder what stories could be told in the area.
Please note if you are searching for the property on Google Earth as it hasn't been updated -so don't worry you aren't staying in a barn!!!

About the host
Hosted by Jane Webster
We moved here permanently in Jan 2023 after deciding to retire early from our careers in the UK. We originally bought the house as a holiday home and we inherited an old food barn which we then renovated and this has become the gite.
We love meeting people from different countries and explaining to them how the gite came about (one guest described it as an 'upside down 'house .This certainly adds to its character and uniqueness.
The building is completely separate and private from the main house with access to the meadow/orchard to help yourself to the fruit and have a quiet sit and watch the birdlife.
Everyone is different and we aim to make your stay as memorable as possible.
There is a welcome basket provided that will assist you in enjoying your stay.

Why they chose this property
Mortain is a quiet town situated around the Petite Chapelle and the Grandes and Petites Cascades. Both are walkable but there are hills to get to both. We love the friendliness of the Norman people and the patience they show us with our French!!
The meadow beside the gite is completely private and peaceful.
The area is stunning in its scenery and in its peacefulness.
Walking around the area, you can hear birds of prey, the local farmers cows and ,in season, the woodpeckers.
The local area is rich in history and during the summer ,there are fabulous markets in the nearby towns to visit and sample the richness of Norman life.
