Welcome to Claim Digger, your home-away-from-home! Located in Powder House Pass, our cabin allows you to walk out the door and hike/bike/snowmobile/ATV without the effort of hitching up a trailer! Take in a little bit of history as you explore mining claims or check out the old powder houses right out your back door! But that’s not all that is out your back door as you will be located in the heart of the recreation corridor in the stunning northern Black Hills! The Mickelson Trail and Snowmobile Trail #5 are adjacent to Powder House Pass on it’s eastern and western edges. Looking to take in some sightseeing? Spearfish Canyon, with its beautiful rim-rock ledges and mountain streams, offers great rock climbing, hiking and trout fishing and is just a short 5 minutes away. Deadwood, Terry Peak and Majestic Miner Ski facilities are also a 5-10 minute drive while Mt. Rushmore, Keystone and Hill City are a short 45 minutes away! Only 15 Miles outside of Sturgis to enjoy sight-seeing on your motorcycle, perfect location during the Sturgis Bike Rally in August every year!

After exploring all day, you will be happy to come home and soak in the copper tub, or enjoy the peaceful sounds and watch the wildlife from the hot tub under one of the two covered porches. You also have access to our amazing Powder House Pass Community Clubhouse located just a walk away! Featuring a huge gathering area, kitchen, game room, heated year-round pool and patio, and an outdoor fire pit!

The cabin also has a family suite featuring a king bed and bunkhouse separated by a bathroom, along with 2 other king suites! If that isn’t enough room, the loft also has a queen sofa sleeper and the custom barn doors can be closed for privacy. The main floor living room has an amazing two story wall of windows adjacent to the open concept kitchen and dining room perfect for creating those wonderful memories with your family and friends. The cabin was delightful. So cozy and inviting, it was super easy to just kick back and relax. Lots of cool items in the cabin, only a few miles from Lead for gas, groceries, and other necessities. Terry Peak is just a couple miles down the road. The bunk beds and other single bed were not very convenient. To access them people had to go through the master bedroom and bathroom. Which made showering a timing issue, since there were kids sleeping in that 'room' , which we worked around. We all had a great weekend and enjoyed the fun and relaxing weekend.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property! The cabin was very nice and stocked with everything we needed for our late family Christmas celebration. We enjoyed the openness of the living area and kitchen and the loft was perfect for the kids to play games and watch movies. Truly, a great place to stay!

We have stayed in this beautiful home for a couple nights every September for several years and already have it booked for next year. The hot tub is always appreciated and the kids enjoy the club house pool. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen has all the supplies needed and them some. Opening the door is like coming home.

Sturgis rally get away with friends

Beautiful home. Very clean and well maintained! We started each morning with a cooked breakfast in the fully stocked kitchen and spent the days riding through the black hills, seeing Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse memorial, toured Jewel cave and Wind Cave and so much more. We came back to the house and enjoyed the hot tub! Thank you for an amazing trip! We will be back!

Several issues while we were there.1. Appearance outside was filled with tall grass and weeds. Not a pleasent site to behold.2. Had to blow outside sidewalk off, clean all tables and chairs as a greed substance was all over.3. Could not get stove up to required temperature to cook!4. Overall, it didn't look like house cleaning did their thing before we arrived!

Home in the Hills

I believe this was our 4th stay here. The house is always clean, well kept and well stocked. The grandkids love having access to the pool. Always a pleasurable stay. Feels like coming home.

The house had everything we needed. The hot tub, fire pit, clubhouse with pools, multiple bedrooms/bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen and grill, 2 car garage. It was perfect for our families. Renter Beware

The house has a nice layout & location. We enjoyed our stay & left the place cleaner than required even though there was a substantial cleaning fee. (Cleaned gas range, wiped down refrigerator, counters, swept, etc.). Some furniture & rugs were worn, but it was comfortable. The gas grill was extremely dirty and a tub upstairs barely drained. There were a few other issues, but nothing we couldn’t manage. What put a HUGE Damper on the whole experience was the rude text we received from the owner on our way home… “These are photos today of chocolate melted and chunks all over our carpet. There is going to be a charge deducted from your deposit. This is not how one should ever treat another person’s property.” We weren’t aware of leaving it?? We take insurance out, but have never had issues…if we did drop something then it should be covered. Whether we are right or they are is not the issue… it was the RUDENESS of the owners text. We would suggest that if you are considering renting the house you take before & after photos to cover your tale.

Great set up for families!

Loved that there were 3 king sized beds for couples! The bunk room was a little inconvenient since you have to walk thru the master bedroom and bath to get to it. Never did get connected to the wifi, password wouldn't work. kids loved the hot tub. Had a great long table for everyone to sit at. nice clubhouse.

Nice home

It’s a very nice, comfortable home. We had a difficult time controlling heat issues, but we prevailed! The clubhouse is just across the road, is a stretch! At -10 you have to drive to play pool! The photos in the description makes it seem like the pool table and shuffle board are in the home. It’s not described until you read all the small print! In a better time of year, this is a perfect vacation place!

Great house near Deadwood, Spearfish Canyon

We liked the layout of this house. The upper level had a large lounge/living room of its own that could be closed off by barn doors to the open living room below, so if you had kids and adults or men and women that wanted their own space for different activities it would work. Very nice bedrooms and bathrooms for all. The open concept let us all cook, craft, and talk as a group on the main level. We saw deer right outside our windows every day.

This was the third time our family has stayed at the Claim Digger and it felt like coming home. The youngest of our group was 9 and the oldest was 70 something, and all found the home and area comfortable and beautiful. The kids enjoyed the pool and biking around the neighborhood. We hope to stay again next fall, just wish we could stay a little longer next time!

Even with hiccups

Even with a few hiccups with the property the host was always willing to answer my messages and was extremely helpful. Made our stay fantastic! We used this as a focal point for our family Annual Hills Side by Side Ride. It was centrally located with amazing clubhouse amenities. They house was clean, beautiful, and comfortable for our large group. Would definitely stay here again!

Claim Digger became ours in July, 2017 when we discovered Powder House Pass to make a long-time dream come true. We absolutely love to visit our Beautiful Black Hills and are a Jeeping, ATV'ing and snowmobiling family and the location of Claim Digger with the trails right out our backdoor is perfect for us! Various pictures of our family and daughters are scattered throughout the cabin. We hope you love our cabin and the Black Hills area as much as we do!

Why they chose this property

We absolutely LOVE the Black Hills in our home state of South Dakota. There simply is no better place to vacation! As for this particular cabin, we loved the location so near to Lead & Deadwood and the convenience of paved roads. We are a Jeeping family and the location of the trails right out our back door was a must! However, the convenience of the location in no way interferes with the seclusion of the cabin. Wildlife is abundant and most mornings and evenings, there are deer and turkeys right in our back yard. We love being able to bring our daughters here for a long weekend vacation, where they are free to explore the natural beauty...there is just no better place on Earth!
