Givendale holiday cottages offer guests the ultimate rural escape, where you can enjoy English countryside at its very best. Nestled on the banks of the River Ure, you can enjoy river and woodland walks straight from your doorstep. Fire up the bbq on your woodland terrace or relax in the garden and orchard and enjoy far reaching views over the Dales and Ripon cathedral. The cottages are situated on the edge of the Newby Hall estate, one of England’s most remarkable stately homes and one of Adam’s finest, famous for its neoclassical interiors, gobelins tapestries, Chippendale furniture, roman statues and 25 acres of award-winning gardens (Givendale Cottage guests enjoy a 25% discount in to the house and gardens at Newby Hall)
Moat Cottage and Chantry Cottage booked together offers the perfect accommodation for larger groups sleeping up to 9 people. The two cottages are attached and share a spectacular outlook with private interlinking gardens and bbq terraces all enjoying breathtaking views of; the Yorkshire Dales, a moated medieval site and Ripon Cathedral.
Chantry Cottage (sleeps 5+)
Chantry cottage is a pretty,18th century cottage on the Newby Hall estate, which has plenty of charm and character. The cottage has been newly re-furbished, boasting beautiful fresh, yet traditional interiors with a warm palate, creating the perfect, cosy get-away. Outside, you have your own enclosed garden and furnished terrace directly outside the kitchen for al fresco dining, or you can load up a tray and follow the path from the garden gate to a private terrace built into the garden walls which offers spectacular unspoilt views of the Dales and Ripon Cathedral (as the name of the cottage suggests.) The cottage accommodation consist of; a main sitting room with log burner and smart TV, a snug also with log burner and smart TV, a fully equipped kitchen with door opening out in to the garden and terraces, a downstairs loo and utility / boot room with washing machine and dryer. Upstairs consists of; a south-facing master bedroom with king-size bed and ensuite shower room with wash basin, a small pretty single room with views over the gardens, a double bedroom with Dales views and a family bathroom with washbasin, loo and shower over the bath.
Moat Cottage (sleeps 4)
Moat Cottage is an 18th century, charming, two bedroom, attached cottage on the Newby Hall estate, which overlooks the site of a Norman fortress as the name suggests. The cottage has been newly renovated to retain its traditional charm with a warm colour scheme and some antiques, blended with fresh interiors and modern appliances to create the perfect escape. The accommodation comprises of; a small, inviting entrance hall with cloaks cupboard and boot rack, a spacious and light open-plan living/dining space with smart tv and a two-way log burner shared with the adjoining kitchen. The fully-equipped kitchen is furnished with washer / dryer, coffee machine and breakfast bar. The back door from the kitchen opens up in to a pretty, enclosed garden with a private dining / bbq terrace overlooking beautiful dappled views of woodland, open fields with far reaching views over the Dales and Ripon Cathedral. Guests can also relax in the cottages’ orchard and enjoy river walks straight from the back door. Upstairs the cottage has two attractive, light, south facing bedrooms, both of which can be made up as twin or super-king double to suit and a shared bathroom with separate bath and shower.
We respectfully ask that guests do not; host parties, smoke inside, wear outdoor shoes or take food upstairs, allow dogs upstairs or on the furniture, play music or make audible noise after 10pm, remove any keys from the premises (please make sure all doors are locked and windows closed whenever you leave the cottage and put keys back in the key box either by the front or back door).

Givendale Cottages are a family run business, managed by Shanie and Tom Robinson with a little help from their four daughters Polly, Tessa, Jemima and Tilly and friendly spaniel, Billy.
Why they chose this property
We have lived at Givendale for 12 years and felt it was such a special place on the Newby Hall estate, surrounded by beautiful countryside, stunning views and so much wildlife, we new our guests would love it here when we opened the doors to guests in 2024.
