The Neighborhood:

La Cala de Mijas is a pleasant and relaxed coastal neighbourhood on the Costa del Sol, located between Marbella and Fuengirola. It used to be a small fishing village, and even though it has grown over the years, it still keeps a charming village atmosphere. The area is known for its sandy beach, seaside promenade, and many cafés, restaurants, and small shops around the centre.



The neighbourhood is popular with both locals and international residents, so you will hear many languages while still experiencing Spanish culture. It is generally considered safe, friendly, and easy to walk around, especially near the beach and the main streets. Many people enjoy the relaxed lifestyle, the beach bars, and the nearby golf courses.



Compared with Marbella, La Cala is usually quieter and a bit more laid-back, while still offering plenty of restaurants, supermarkets, and services. During the summer months, it can become quite lively because many tourists visit the area. Overall, it is a nice area for holidays as well as for longer stays.



Getting Around:

If you are staying there, the easiest way to move around locally is by walking or short taxi rides. The centre of La Cala (restaurants, beach, supermarkets) is only a few minutes away by car or about a 15–20 minute walk depending on the exact part of the street.



For public transport, the closest bus stops are usually Cala Azul or La Cala de Mijas. From these stops, you can take several bus lines such as M-119, M-220, M-320, and others, which connect La Cala with nearby towns like Fuengirola, Marbella, and Calahonda.



A common route is:



Bus to Fuengirola (about 15–20 minutes), where you can take the C1 train to Málaga Airport or Málaga city.

Bus west toward Marbella or Puerto Banús along the coast.



You can also get around by taxi or rideshare, which are widely available in La Cala and are convenient for short trips or when arriving with luggage. Renting a car is another popular option because the coastal A-7 highway connects La Cala quickly with Marbella, Fuengirola, and the rest of the Costa del Sol.
