About this property

Converted Buttery Cottage in Pembrokeshire

Summary:

**The Old Buttery**, hosted by Salt & City Stays, is a charming three-bedroom Welsh cottage in the heart of Mathry, brimming with character and surrounded by scenic countryside.

Mathry is a peaceful village with narrow streets meandering across the hilltop, offering stunning views of the St. David’s Peninsula in many spots. The village boasts a quaint tearoom within a small antiques shop and a welcoming pub, The Farmers Arms, where you can enjoy delicious meals at lunchtime and in the evening.

The Space:

**The Old Buttery**, hosted by Salt & City Stays, combines traditional charm with modern comfort. It features slate and hardwood floors throughout, exposed beams, and a beautifully equipped kitchen with a ceramic hob, range cooker, fridge/freezer, integrated microwave, and Nespresso coffee machine. The adjacent dining area leads down a few steps to the lower living room, creating a delightful split-level open-plan space.

The living room is cosy and inviting, complete with a log burner and a welcome pack of logs to start your stay. Off the living space, a utility area offers a convenient downstairs WC, a washing machine, and a tumble dryer, as well as storage for wet coats and boots in winter or sandy shoes in summer.

Upstairs, all three bedrooms are located on the first floor. The Master King-size bedroom includes an ensuite and a door leading to the street below via charming stone steps. Two additional bedrooms—one with twin beds and another with a single—are tastefully decorated in a traditional style. The main bathroom features a bathtub with an overhead shower, providing a relaxing space after a day of exploring.

**The Old Buttery**, hosted by Salt & City Stays, is the perfect retreat for making memories in the heart of Mathry.

Guest Access:

We want you to feel at home, so please note that this property features steps throughout, hard floors, and an open oak staircase. Because of this, it may not be the best fit for toddlers or young children under 6.

We’re happy to welcome one well-behaved dog to join you on your stay! A £25 fee applies, and we kindly ask that paws remain on the floors to keep the furniture in top shape.

The Neighborhood:

**The Old Buttery**, hosted by Salt & City Stays, is perfectly situated for exploring the best of North Pembrokeshire—a region that offers a delightful blend of stunning beaches, charming countryside, and rich cultural experiences. From this beautifully converted buttery, you’re just a stone’s throw from Abereiddy Beach, famous for its picturesque coves and clear waters. It’s an ideal spot for a peaceful day by the sea or a scenic coastal walk. Nearby, Traeth Llyfn Beach, a hidden gem surrounded by rugged cliffs, provides a tranquil escape for those seeking solitude away from busier beaches. For a lively day out, Whitesands Bay, just a short drive away, offers wide sandy shores, excellent surfing conditions, and family-friendly swimming areas.

For history and culture lovers, the renowned Melin Tregwynt Woollen Mill is located just north of Mathry. This historic mill, celebrated for its exquisite woollen products, is a must-visit. Watch the looms in action and browse a selection of Welsh blankets, throws, and textiles, including pieces sold in prestigious stores like Fortnum & Mason.

Adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers will relish the beauty of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, located west and north of Mathry. The park boasts breathtaking coastal scenery, perfect for fossil hunting, bird watching, and wildlife spotting. For a more adventurous outing, Abercastle’s picturesque harbor is ideal for kayaking and exploring the scenic coastal trails.
