Perfect nature get away

The barn was truly the most cool and cozy spot to spend the weekend outside of the city. My 1 year old absolutely loved being immersed with the sheep and cats. New Glarus is close by so we spent one of the days exploring the Swiss town and the incredible new Glarus brewery. We will for sure be back!

The Barn House

Everything was lovely. Because it happened to be in 90’s during our stay, the heat was rather unbearable during sleep. Though no fault of the hosts, it would be nice if there is a portable AC available in case there is a heat wave.

Lovely getaway

We had an amazing stay in this wonderful converted barn. All the amenities were perfect for our family and hosts were great. The kids loved seeing the animals and there were lots of toys, books, and movies to keep them entertained inside. There were even plates and cups for little ones so we didn’t need to bring anything with. Yellowstone Lake Park was an easy and pretty drive for a day trip of hiking and swimming. Will definitely return!

Great get-away

We had a wonderful weekend at the barn loft. The loft itself is very clean, well organized, and very charming. The kids loved hanging out with all the animals and getting a taste of life at the farm. They're already asking when we can go back. Karen and George were wonderful guests as well. I'm glad we found this gem of a place!

Down on the Farm

Beautiful updated loft above a working barn. Karen our host gave us a educational experience about the sheep and a tour of the property with other animals. It was fun to wander around and pet the sheep. Loft was equipped with everything we needed.

Farmhouse getaway

Karen and George’s barn loft was exactly what we were looking for in a stay! Very spacious, clean, unique decor, and the fire pole was a hit with my daughter. The animals were part of the wonderful experience. Karen and George are both very passionate about their flock of sheep and shared their knowledge of caring for them with us. It was so interesting! Overall, an excellent experience. We will definitely stay again.

Beautiful, hidden gem

Karen's barn loft is a stunner and everyone must stay there. We were looking for a nice, quiet space outside of Chicago and driving distance from New Glarus and this fill the bill. The loft is gorgeous! A ton of natural light, everything you need, farm fresh eggs, beer, and bagels in the fridge. We could have stayed another week. This is a fantastic space to unplug. The animal neighbors are sweethearts, and Karen is so accommodating. We will definitely be back! Advice to future guests: Take advantage of the indoor hot tub.

Cute farmhouse loft

This is exactly what the description says it is, you drive up to a small farm about 20 minutes from New Glarus, the outside of the barn isn't too impressive, but the loft inside is a pleasant surprise, outfitted with everything to make your stay comfortable. A very roomy loft, could easily fit 2 families, plenty of couch & floor space for kids. Friendly animals waiting to be pet, and there are no animal smells in the loft even though you are directly on top of the barn. Bring marshmallows to roast over the campfire and be ready for kittens to demand cuddles.

Unique lodging

If you're looking for something out of the ordinary, this is the place! We were tired of the usual hotels for our little family getaways and found this listing. What caught my eye was (1) being a hobby farm, (2) lack of cable and wi-fi, (3) price and (4) modern/comfortable living/sleeping space. The owner is very friendly and spent time with us upon our arrival to show us around and introduce us to all their animals (keep in mind, you're staying in the upper level of the animals' barn so there are occasional barnyard sounds and chicken/duck droppings around the grounds). Thanks to the owner's rule to leave your shoes at the door, we found the accommodations very clean and comfortable. There were thoughtful amenities within - supplies to make s'mores, bug spray, local products for purchase, a few kid's toys, books, eggs, and juice in the fridge. The location is fairly rural but is right off a highway and is within a half-hour of several towns and attractions, which was perfect for us.

Getaway to the Barn Loft

Our hosts Karen and George were very welcoming and helpful. Their spacious and well-designed Barn Loft was clean and comfortable - and exactly what we were looking for, for a quiet and peaceful week away! Upon arrival, Karen gave us a tour of the barn, and introduced us to their flock. The loft is stocked with every cooking utensil needed and a starter kit of spices to cook a meal. The farm fresh eggs were delicious! Loved the showers' water pressure, and the fantastic laundry facilities! Even in the dead of winter, we had wonderful heat, which added to the warm and cozy atmosphere of the loft! From the farm, it was an easy trip to visit the Duluth Trading Company in Belleville, and then continue on to Lands' End at Madison's Prairie Towne Center for shopping. Nearby New Glarus was a fun village to explore and learn more about Wisconsin cheese, meats, and its Swiss heritage. Karen and George are both very dedicated and committed to their sheep, and shared their knowledge of caring for them with us. The animals were so much a part of this wonderful visit. Karen and George, thank you so much for your hospitality!

Wish I’d had stayed longer

OMG!!!!!! I wish I would have stayed here the entire weekend. The layout is Awesome!!!! So the other people that left a review said no barn critter aroma, their olfactory sense must be gone. Just turn on the fans! The place is set so remotely that my wife was hesitant on my choice of bookin, but once inside it was great!!!! You talk about silence!!!!! The only thing I heard was the walnuts hitting the tin roof and the chickens outside, we opened the windows. Karen was sooooooooo accommodating that even after our late arrival she brought over a hair dryer for my wife. The eggs and bagels for breakfast the next morning with the orange juice in the fridge and condiments for our breakfast the next morning were the bomb! Stay here and make day trips to New Glarus, Monroe, Madison, or wherever! It is definitely worth it. Thank you Karen for everything!!!!! I wish to come back.

Relaxed and Unplugged

My mom, my 2 daughters and I spent 4 days and 3 nights on this beautiful property. Karen was very accommodating and showed my girls and I around the farm. We met the chickens and were given Karen’s secrets on where to find eggs. She took us into the sheep pen and we met the goat and sheep by name. We met the rabbits and help take care of them at night. The farm is located within a short drive to New Glarus and Madison. A day trip to the Dells is also possible. The majestic scenery around every turn is breathtaking. The barn loft is very cozy and has everything you would need including a washer dryer, hot tub, shower, books for all ages and some DVDs. My kids and I enjoyed watching Shaun the Sheep! The beds were very comfortable and sleeping with the dress hair was wonderful. We made fresh eggs every morning and played with Lil Tim and Bandit, the barn kitties. My girls enjoyed the milk pole that doubles as a fireman’s pole in lieu of the stairs! Thanks again Karen for a wonderful stay. It was extremely relaxing a great to be unplugged and away from the corporate life. We will definitely come back for a visit.

Very clean, a lot of thought put into it, fun, wonderful

Karen was an outstanding host, she was helpful, kind and generous. Her farm is great for kids or a ladies retreat. The animals were gentle for the kids, the loft was clean and the amenities were top notch. There is no t.v, or wifi and it was the best! My 7 & 13 loved being with the animals which you could access right from the loft down a set of stairs. She has three kittens that are farm kittens, but they are definitely little snugglers if you let them! We will definitely be back, hopefully in fall when the leaves are changing. It was so peaceful there. Her family was very kind and gracious to us. They have black raspberry bushes, sour cherry trees, pear trees etc. The kitchen has a great gas stove, the bathroom was great too, had a washer and dryer, the bedrooms are very large, so if you have more than 3-4 people you can put air mattresses in them, which she had 2 queen size ones available. It is not handicap accessible though, as you have to walk up a walkway of stone and then up to small steps of stone. The double decker treehouse is very cool, even for my daughter who was afraid to go up at first. The chickens are free range, so you will most likely see them at your door in the morning 😊there is nothing bad I would say. I loved it!
