*****New to Vrbo, guests on other booking platforms have all rated their stay at the Barn 5 stars, confirming it is a wonderful place to stay!*****
The space:
The Barn is a detached, single storey, large open plan living space that has been renovated over 2023/24 to an exceptional standard. The vaulted ceiling with exposed beams adds rustic character and gives a feeling of light and space.
Enter through your own private entrance from gravelled off-street parking that leads to an enclosed private garden.
Through the entrance hall and spacious boot room lies an open plan kitchen with island, dining and sitting area centred around a wood burning stove and smart HDTV.
The kitchen is fully equipped including electric oven and induction hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and separate drinks fridge, toaster, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher, crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils.
There is a dining table (seats 6) and more informal seating at the island.
The sitting area can comfortably seat 6 people around a Hwam wood burner.
Along the hallway are two bedrooms, one king size double with en-suite bath/shower, and one twin/super king size with separate shower room. (The twin beds can be zip locked together to make a super king size bed.)
Feather filled pillows and duvets of various togs, cotton bed linen and fluffy towels are provided with guest comfort top of mind.
A utility room lies off the boot room with a butler sink, washing machine (separate tumble dryer available on request), clothes rack, iron and ironing board.
There is underfloor heating throughout and wireless broadband.
Outside the Barn is a fenced off, dog friendly garden with patio seating area, fire pit, BBQ and spectacular views of the setting sun on the surrounding fields.
Guest access:
Access is to the entire Barn and garden for you to enjoy.
It lies to the west of the main house so you may see us and our dogs from time to time.
There is off-street parking for 2 cars and an EV charger directly outside the Barn; more parking is available by the main house adjacent to the Barn on request.
There is a secure covered storage area for bikes, should you wish to cycle the miles of country lanes and trails from the Barn.
Neighbourhood highlights:
Whether a reviving walk across the fields for a rewarding pint from a choice of local country pubs, or a more energetic excursion along The Ridgeway National Trail, the ancient 87 mile pathway crossing the North Wessex Downs AONB; or a haven of peaceful seclusion wiling away the hours observing the abundant wildlife or luxuriating in a good book in front of the wood burning stove - all this and more is on your doorstep at The Barn at Compton Marsh.
Local amenities including two convenience stores, farm shop, delicatessen and café are 3 miles away in the nearby village of Shrivenham.
Numerous historic, leisure and cultural interests are within a short distance; explore the Saxon legend behind the Neolithic burial chamber at Wayland's Smithy; experience majestic views from the pre-historic Uffington White Horse; walk the River Thames footpath to its source; shoot clays at Barbury Shooting Ground or play golf at Wrag Barn and Shrivenham Park; or indulge in the multiple National Trust Estates, as well as the cultural meccas of fine architecture, literature and gastronomy in Oxford, Bath or Cheltenham.
Getting around:
A car is recommended as the Barn lies in a rural location, 3 miles from Shrivenham’s public transport (bus) links between Oxford and Swindon.
We are within easy reach of A420 and approximately 10 miles from M4 (junctions 14 or 15). Nearest GWR rail links are Swindon (10 miles) and Didcot Parkway (18 miles).
Other things to note:
The miles of footpaths, bridleways and country lanes accessible from the Barn can be wet and muddy in winter, so suitable outdoor footwear is advised!
An outside tap is available by the entrance to the Barn.
One basket of logs is provided. Additional logs are available to purchase on request.
