This cabin is a slice of heaven. The setting was absolutely beautiful, with great fishing right in front (my son caught tons of Trout). The cabin was very cozy, well stocked, and the beds were very comfortable. Will definitely book again!
West Fork of the Bitterroot, few miles from the National Forrest, few miles from Darby,a throwback cabin that is well taken care of and updated as needed, romantic, inspiring, and well worth the trip.Owners have a vision and we were happy to experience.
We are an older couple and needed a break, this was a great break!!! We loved it all, peaceful, birds, wildlife, river music, swam, fished, hiked, and chilled. Special place and we are thankful we got to share it for a while. (Chickens Carrot Cake, worth minimg for Sapphire(s) in Darby)
A really special place. The house is nice and cozy, but the property is the real star with its great swimming hole and beautiful river views. My kids that are 9 and 10 spent hours swimming. Nice location out of town, but easy to run back in for groceries or to check your phone if needed. Hope to get back here again.
One of the most gorgeous cabins we’ve stayed. Lovely rivers and creeks, old growth pine, many great hikes within a short drive, town of Hamilton was quaint and charming. Lovely and accommodating hosts.
Property was beautful with great fishing within walking disrance. Cabin was clean, adorable, and had anything you would need. The rivers made the best natural sound machines! Close to Darby (less than 15 minutes). Great time!
This was our fourth year in a row now. It is such a piece of heaven that it is hard to even put into words. Every time we drive up, we feel like we are home. As long as it’s available, we will never stop coming. It’s our favorite place on earth.
My wife and I are in Montana looking at property and found this great gem of a property to relax as we do our due diligence looking at properties.
Doug has been great in the communication.

Pictures do not do justice for the actual beauty of the Tailwater House and the location. The home was clean and well appointed. It was a little scary at first not having cell service, but we quickly adjusted. We were here to fly fish and the scenery was breathtaking. I do t know if we will make it out again, we are from North Carolina, but we would definitely stay at this rental again!

First, checking in was not smooth as there was a tree down across the driveway blocking our access. Holley (Host) got right on it and had maintenance get there and remove it. About 1.5 hrs delay. Would be nice if there was a morning check on the property prior to a renter checking in.Second, for me (81yrs old) the property was not ideal. Rented it primarily to fish thinking the cabin side of the stream was shallow so I could wade out and fish the deeper side across from the cabin. This was not the case as the cabin side runs deep and fast. Third, I did not see any pictures of the steep drive or the multiple stairs necessary to go from drive to cabin. As a couple in their 80’s, it was project for us lugging down and up with the coolers and luggage. Fourth, I thought the cabin was smaller than the pictures indicated, but very well furnished. Beautiful Master Bedroom. We did have a mouse, but probably should be expected in the middle of nowhere.Fifth, the cabin is right off the road. There is really no place to walk on the property which my wife loves to do.So, from an older couple, it did not fulfill our expectations. Otherwise, it is a nice cabin in a beautiful location.
We loved our time at the cabin..the pictures do not do it justice. It's the perfect spot for a family vaca. We needed to unplug from work and just enjoy our time together. This was just what we needed. We will be back!! Darby is a charming little town.
This place is pretty magical, just wish the fish weren't smarter than me. My kids are already asking when we can go back. Bring a chainsaw if you drive to Horse Creek hot springs, FYI.
Everything you could want. Mountains and river right outside your door. A few steps to fishing and relaxing at the river. Kitchen, living and dining areas just the right size. Enjoyed cooking out on the grill, relaxing on the deck and watching Ospreys, Kingfishers and Baldeagles fly by.
The Tailwater house is absolutely beautiful - everything lives up to the descriptions. We had a small issue but Holly and Alex took care of it and made everything right. The caretaker Steve across the street was extra helpful. Thanks for everything!

Better then advertised
The Tailwater House far exceeded our expectations. Beautiful cabin and location on the river. The cabin is very well thought out and included the touches you would find at home. The fishing was great right out the back door, we caught some of our biggest fish within a few steps off the deck. The huge deck was great for relaxing on after a long day of fishing. The great cabin and beautiful location make the Tailwater House 5 stars.

Thanks so much for the kind words. The Tailwater is our home away from home, and we want it to be yours too. Please come back.
Loved the privacy in the woods and on the river. Sat many quiet days on the many decks reading, birdwatching and watching my husband flyfish. The beds and furniture were comfortable, the cabin very clean, kitchen had everything you needed and grilled outside a lot. Well situated close to town, restaurants, shopping in Darby. Loved the pristine sounds of Gordon Lightfoot on the stereo! Will definitely return. Host was very good to us.
I’m serious, I haven’t slept that well in decades. The sound of Boulder Creek meeting the Bitterroot is the sound of heaven. The cabin is a true retreat and escape from the modern world, which we loved. The fishing was good and only feet from the deck. Want a well-stocked kitchen? This is your ticket. Overall a great place and experience.
It was exactly what we were looking for. A secluded hideaway on the water. The cabin is the perfect size. Very clean. We loved all the decks/ porches. No internet. Small tv for a dvd before bed. We opened the window at night to listen to the water rush. What can i say., i hope we can return one day soon.
