About this property

A characterful detached cottage-style home with private wood fired hot tub and sauna, offering comfortable accommodation for up to six guests.

Cuttieshillock is a historic, detached cottage for six, nestled on the edge of Glen Dye Forest with stunning views and direct access to walking trails. Inside, it offers a large kitchen, cosy sitting and dining rooms, a family bathroom, and a downstairs loo. A converted outbuilding serves as a studio or chill-out space with a wood burner. Outside, enjoy a private wood-fired sauna with cold shower and a hot tub under the stars. Guests also have access to the estates BYOB space.

Glen Dye Estate is located in Aberdeenshire, surrounded by 30,000 acres of wilderness with the River Dye winding through its ancient pine forests, heather-covered hills and expansive moorland. Beneath the granite tor of Clachnaben, the landscape feels untouched—rich in wildlife, steeped in history and filled with the quiet magic that only true remoteness can bring. Views stretch for miles across wooded glens and rolling hills, with ever-changing skies shifting from golden morning light to long, luminous sunsets.

Adventure begins at your doorstep. Hike to waterfalls, cycle quiet forestry tracks or wild swim in the river; wander gentle woodland paths or climb towards Clachnaben for panoramic summit views. The estate itself is alive with simple pleasures—gather eggs from the hens, pick seasonal vegetables from the garden and meet neighbours at the Glen Dye Arms, the estate’s BYOB space. A wide range of experiences can also be arranged, from bushcraft and venison masterclasses to forest bathing, archery tag, salmon and sea trout fishing, bike hire and axe throwing, alongside creative workshops, whisky tastings, yoga sessions and even private cinema hire. Once your booking is confirmed, the Birch Stays team will be delighted to help curate activities and ensure your stay is truly unforgettable.

Cuttieshillock offers spacious accommodations with a large kitchen, dining area, comfortable sitting room, an upstairs family bathroom, and a downstairs toilet. Additionally, there’s a converted outbuilding that serves as an artist’s and writer’s studio, complete with a wood burner, alongside a private wood-fired sauna with a cold shower and a wood-fired hot tub for total relaxation.

Located just 4 miles from the heart of Glen Dye Retreat and nestled on the edge of Glen Dye forest, the property boasts stunning views and countless walking trails. Guests have access to the estates own traditional Scottish BYOB space, with a log fire and record player, plus Garden Camp, a shared space featuring outdoor games and a warm indoor retreat. Seasonal vegetables, fresh eggs, and local produce are available on-site, and the nearby Discovery and Adventure Centre offers private electric sauna sessions with cold showers and plunge pools for a rejuvenating experience.
