About this property
Seaside, ParkView, Near Lake District and Marina - Pass the Keys
Enjoy this lovingly restored, excellently situated, Georgian home. Relax in spaciousness and traditional finery looking over a park as afternoon sunshine streams in; toast a hearty meal in the ruby dining room; or stroll down to harbour, beaches, shops, train station, all less than 5 mins walk. A short drive will get you to the Lakes. Panoramic views from the park over the sea and harbour are due to its elevated position above the town, and that height is what gives this 'High Street' its name!
This grand townhouse is wonderfully spacious with high Georgian ceilings, filled with period features and details, and has been sensitively renovated in keeping with its listed building status.
As you enter the entrance hall with it's ornate tile work, the ruby dining and games room with extendable mahogony dining table is on your left. Ahead of you the hallway opens up into a large open plan kitchen with french doors onto the courtyard garden. You'll find the light golden living room in the traditional 'parlour' location upstairs.
The house features four generous double bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an extra downstairs WC. The loft bedroom feels like its own private studio suite, complete with an en suite shower room for added comfort and privacy. The main family bathroom serves the Sweetpea, Acorn, and Crimson rooms, and offers a setup with a bathtub, separate walk in shower, and a bidet.
To accommodate larger groups or families, a pull-out mattress is also available and can comfortably sleep two children, bringing the total guest capacity of the property to 10.
The walls of Maggie B’s provide a showcase for the landscape and history of the Lake District and Whitehaven with maps, paintings and books all giving insight to the fascinating industrial heritage of what was the first planned town in the UK, the harbour at one time being Britain’s 3rd biggest port. Whitehaven today is famed for having more listed buildings per square mile than anywhere else on the British Isles.
If you are an outdoors enthusiast seeking refreshing adventures in the Lakes and mountains, sea cliffs and Coast Path, or cycle routes, a multitude of opportunities await you. 5 minutes walk to the coast, or 20 minutes drive to the nearest of the lakes, there’s so much within easy reach for your days out.
A walk around the 300 year old harbour itself offers lovely scenery and views of interest, with beaches, sea cliffs, and views out to sea and as well as across the historical conservation area and more modern marina.
For those interested in history and heritage, or something to entertain on a rainy day, museums within a short walk include; The Rum Story, which includes an interactive depiction of life in Whitehaven’s heyday as a shipping hub; and The Beacon, a multi-level centre with history and science as well as special exhibitions and events. There’s also Michael Moon’s amazing bookshop and Richardsons wine cellar, both within easy walking distance and offering more local history and information.
The whole space is yours to enjoy!
There is a large free car park less than a minute's walk from the house at the end of the street. Directly outside there is free street parking after 6pm until 8:30am in the morning. In between those times you can park for free up to an hour with a parking disc which can we provide for guests to use and return at the end of their stay.
There are many unique books and maps throughout the house which we welcome you to enjoy and use during your stay, plus DVDs and board games. All of these are my personal collections and many of them have been passed down through my family, so please treat them with respect and return them to their home as you found them.
To add a touch of extra atmosphere and a warm candlelit vibe, rechargeable LED tealights have been provided for you to use during your stay. Maggie B’s has always been synonymous with candlelit celebrations, however for fire safety reasons no naked flames and no smoking of any kind are allowed inside the house, so these special tealights enable the sumptuous atmosphere to live on! The tealights are very delicate so please take care not to bend the wicks and ensure they are left in place for future guests to enjoy.
Fire exits are the main entrance door and the side door to the garden. The rear french double doors can also be used to exit into the garden, which has a gate leading to the street. Rechargeable torches are provided at sockets in the hallways which are designed to light up in the unlikely event of a power failure, in order to assist you in finding your way around - please always return the torches to their bases as soon as you have finished with them.
A wide double oven with an induction hob is provided for efficient and responsive cooking, plus a microwave and toaster. Suitable pans are provided, however if for any reason you wanted to bring additional pans of your own do remember to make sure they are induction compatible!
