Lying on the western edge of the New Forest, near to Burley and Bransgore, Rockford Cottage is ideally located for your next New Forest and South Coast holiday.
This 3-bedroom semi-detached property has been recently renovated with modern fixtures & fittings, and new furniture; and features a substantial private garden, making it ideal for families or groups of six.
Rockford Cottage is located within the bounds of the majestic New Forest National Park in the small village of Thorney Hill, Hampshire — between Bransgore (3 minutes’ south) and Burley (5 minutes’ north). Surrounded by beautiful countryside, rolling hills, lush green fields, and ancient woodlands, this cottage is absolutely ideal for nature lovers, walkers, and cyclists — in a quiet village location.
The ground floor areas feature well-designed spaces and practical furniture pieces that are perfect for group dining and holiday relaxation, and feature wood flooring throughout giving it a warm and welcoming feel.
The bright yet cosy lounge has a modern grey upholstered sofa set, with wooden coffee table, and a smart flat screen tv plus sound bar to stream your favourite tv shows or movies on. There’s also french doors to access the garden from here.
A substantial dining room has a beautiful bay window with shutters, an open fireplace for the cooler months, and flows through to the kitchen area. The wooden dining table set here seats six comfortably in a space that feels modern and homely in design.
The kitchen connects to a conservatory utility room overlooking the garden and has plenty of white-finished cupboard space and a lovely wooden worktop. There’s a dishwasher and an electric oven with induction hob and extractor hood. On the worktop are some small appliances including toaster, kettle, coffee machine, air-fryer, and microwave. It’s equipped with plenty of glassware, mugs, crockery, cutlery, and cookware for self-catering.
The conservatory includes a Smeg fridge, a separate fridge freezer, and a washing machine. There’s also a small sofa in this space for enjoying the garden views.
Lastly, on the ground floor, is a handy cupboard WC underneath the main stairs, with toilet and basin.
On the upper level, the first bedroom is a simple double room, with double metal framed bed, an open metal wardrobe with hanging space, and some bedside drawers on either side with lamps.
The second bedroom is a cosy smaller room ideal for kids or teens, which features a bunk bed with two single mattresses. There’s a large chest of drawers in here for storage too.
The third bedroom along the hallway is the largest in size, and features a double bed, bedside drawers, a large mirrored wardrobe, and a vanity table and chair.
A beautiful full family bathroom on this level oozes style, and is finished in white & black — and has a deep luxurious bathtub, fantastic shower with rainfall head, toilet, and a modern basin vanity unit.
To the rear of the property is a good-sized garden, ideal for the warmer months, and features a garden swing, garden furniture including a small rattan set, and a small charcoal BBQ.
Towels, linens, and basic cleaning equipment are included in your booking. There’s free Wi-Fi throughout Rockford Cottage. Central heating is controlled via a thermostat in the dining room.
For families, there are some board games to utilise in the dining room for your stay.
One travel cot and high chair are available upon request for babies and toddlers (and for families of 7). The cottage is pet friendly, and there are some great walks for dogs nearby.
There’s also a hairdryer and hoover.
There’s free street parking at the front of the property for your stay.
Please note: there are steps up to the 1st floor.
About the Area:
The New Forest almost needs no introduction! This epic, sprawling national park is literally on your doorstep at Rockford Cottage, and you can start exploring various walking or cycling trails direct from Thorney Hill village.
Stunning heathlands, forests, rivers, mudflats and saltmarshes cover an area of 219 square miles, combined of course with quaint and historical villages, and the most amazing English wildlife.
The bustling and popular village of Burley is only a short drive (or long hike) away and features an array of pubs, cafés, and shops in a beautiful setting. Even closer is the village of Bransgore, just south of the property, which has shops including a post office, pharmacy, greengrocer and bakery. The village is also home to 3 brilliant pubs.
The coastal town of Christchurch is a short drive and a lovely area to explore for its historical sites, shopping, eateries and parks near the waterfront.
West Hampshire’s coastline is also nearby. For shoppers, the charming Georgian town of Lymington is fantastic for its weekly Saturday market and its many high street shops, supermarkets, and boutiques. It makes for an ideal base for many coastal pursuits, including yachting & sailing facilities, ferries to the Isle of Wight, and maritime historical sites.
You’ll find Milford-on-Sea west of Lymington, which is a charming seaside village and the lovely Hordle Cliff shingle beach nearby. You can reach Henry VIII’s fortress Hurst Castle east of Milford; and west leads to Barton-on-Sea village and beach.
Further along on the coastline at the Hampshire & Dorset border is Highcliffe, with its impressive Grade 1 listed Highcliffe Castle, and with steps down to the beach here leading on west to Avon Beach and Mudeford.
Hengistbury Head nature reserve is accessible on foot or bikes, and makes for a great day out too — if you continue around this headland it leads you to Mudeford Sandspit and its iconic beach huts. Mudeford sandspit can also be accessed via ferry from the Avon Beach Mudeford Car Park.
Heading west along the coastline from Christchurch, takes you first to Southbourne, then the cliffs at Boscombe Beach, and then to the many famous seafronts at Bournemouth. Further west is the upmarket Sandbanks, with its stunning sandy beach. A car ferry from here takes you to Studland — showcasing an incredible wild bay stretching miles to Swanage, providing easy access to the beautiful Isle of Purbeck peninsula and Corfe Castle.
