About this property

Deanburn Barn - Cosy Straw Bale Barn on the edge of Dartmoor National Park

Deanburn Barn is a cosy, straw bale barn which sits nestled at the end of a private drive on the edge of the beautiful Dartmoor National Park. It provides a unique, rural retreat for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers wishing to get away from it all. Sitting amongst beautiful, ancient beech trees, our cosy, straw bale barn is an ideal place to come and relax and to leave the world behind. The barn is detached and is surrounded by trees, open fields and the sound of birds and running water.

The space
Our straw bale barn is a unique and cosy space which welcomes you into its peaceful interior. The thick straw and cob walls are curved and organic, and we have retained the barn's character whilst providing many modern comforts such as underfloor heating in the kitchen; Wi-Fi, SMART TV, a wood burning stove and washing and drying facilities in an adjoining timber building. The water supply comes from a natural spring and comes through the tap UV filtered, clean and beautifully fresh to drink. A wooden staircase and oak walkway take you from the open-plan lounge upstairs into the sanctuary of the bedroom where large Velux windows offer views of sky, treetops, woodland and neighbouring fields where you may spot the occasional deer. There is a feeling of light, calm and quiet upstairs and with a king size bed, it is the perfect place to sit and relax after a day on the moor.

About the host

Hosted by Michael Rolls

Host profile image
We have lived up on this part of Dartmoor now for many years and feel very privileged to live and to be able to host in such a beautiful part of the world. We are both retired, myself from teaching and Michael from being a headteacher and we are currently completing renovations on our own home and looking forward to some travelling and adventures in the future.

Why they chose this property

This is a very special location and we are lucky enough to be able to walk directly onto Dartmoor whilst also only being only a 45 minute drive from the beautiful south Devon coast. We both enjoy being in nature, walking and road cycling and lead fairly active and busy lives despite being retired from teaching.

What makes this property unique

Deanburn barn is of straw bale construction and this gives it a unique quiet warmth once inside its curved organic walls. It is surrounded by trees and nature and the constant sound of gently flowing water and birdsong make it an incredibly relaxing place to be. As a guest, you have the whole barn to yourself and when lying in the comfortable, king size bed you can look out of the Velux windows and see the stars at night and the sky, trees and birds during the day.
