About this property
Marvellous secluded forest lodge - Stone Hall
Magnificently located within Rendlesham Forest, between the County’s most picturesque rivers - the Deben and Alde, and surrounded by the Suffolk Coast & Heaths National Landscape (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), Stone Hall has the cream of Suffolk in its grasp. Woodbridge voted Britain’s ‘Happiest Place to Live’ is also only a few minutes away. It was originally built by Lord Rendlesham in the 1800s on the ruins of Staverton (Saxon for stone) Manor, which was burnt down in the 1381 Peasants Revolt. The hall has been recently modernised to include a King, three Super King-sized bedrooms, three bath/shower rooms and a large crackling fireplace. Being secreted away down a half mile private track and enclosed in a large secluded garden with direct access to a forest teeming with rare wildlife, Stone Hall promises supreme comfort, unparalleled tranquillity and immersion in nature. GROUND FLOOR Entrance Porch – Shoe, boot & welly rack along with coat hooks. Hallway – Writing desk below the stairs, exposed flint walls of the original Hall. Water closet – Hand-basin and lavatory. Drawing Room – Bright and light filled room with south and west facing windows and glass sliding door, two large matching sofas and armchairs facing a brick fireplace and Smart TV recessed in an alcove. Kitchen & Dining Room – Modern and with extensive marble worktops, large & small sink, dishwasher, full-sized fridge/freezer, large capsule Nespresso coffee machine, four slice toaster, kettle, microwave and a double electric oven with five gas hobs. There is a large wooden dining table with eight matching leather style dining chairs and glass doors onto the garden and terrace. Scullery – Large butler sink, wooden worktop and second full sized fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. Orford Bedroom – King-sized bed with matching mirrored bedside tables & lamps and a chest of drawers. Shower Room – Hand-basin, lavatory and easy access walk-in waterfall power-shower. Eyke Bedroom – Super King-sized bed with matching beside tables & lamps beneath a vaulted ceiling. There is a large freestanding wardrobe, arm chair and writing desk with views over the garden. FIRST FLOOR Deben Bedroom – Super-king-size bed, matching bedside tables & lamps, and two chests of drawers. Ensuite Bathroom (to the Deben Bedroom) – Hand-basin, lavatory and jacuzzi style bath tub with stand-up power-shower. Alde Bedroom – Super King-sized bed, matching bedside tables & lamp and chest of drawers. Bathroom – Hand-basin, lavatory and bath tub. OUTSIDE Terraces – There is terracing west off the Drawing Room and east off the Dining Room with a large circular table and seating for ten. Hot Tub – Subject to availability a four person RotoSpa Orbis (or similar) hot tub can be rented and installed via a specialist local provider for an extra charge. A separate modest utility charge is also required to cover the cost of water and power drawn from Stone Hall. Garden – Immediately off the terraces is a flat croquet style lawn beyond which are wilder grassed areas with an abundance of mature deciduous and evergreen trees. The garden is about four acres and surrounded by high hedging with mesh wire to contain all but the most dedicated canine escapologists. On the east side there is a gate providing private and direct access to Rendlesham Forest. Rendlesham Forest - Established during the First World War to fulfil increasing demand for timber and now managed by the Forestry Commission. It is nearly four thousand acres and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) brimming with fauna and flora including the nightjar, rare orchids, fallow roe and muntjac deer, badgers, hares, rabbits, foxes, and many species of birds and butterflies. In 1980 the forest was the site of a supposed UFO event. US military personnel spotted strange lights above the forest. Timber is still harvested while being managed as a special place for nature and recreation. Horse Paddock - Adjoining the garden is a small paddock with a two horse shelter with fresh water supply. The paddock has direct access to Rendlesham Forest and can be rented separately by agreement. All Enquiries to Idyllic Cottages.
