About this property

Pip's Lookout, St Margaret's Bay

With panoramic views across the English Channel and perched above the White Cliffs of Dover, Pip’s Lookout is a coastal retreat unlike any other. Set within the iconic Old Coastguard Lookout – the nearest building in the UK to France and a striking 1920s Art Deco landmark – this historic clifftop home boasts one of the most spectacular and uninterrupted sea views on the Kent coast. Described by The Sunday Times Travel Magazine as one of the places to stay for the best views in England, Pip’s Lookout occupies an unrivalled position where France shimmers on the horizon on clear days and ships glide endlessly through one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes below. Steeped in history, the building began life as a coastguard station in the 1920s before playing an important role in Britain’s wartime radar operations, helping to monitor activity across the Channel during World War II. Today, it offers something far more relaxing: a unique coastal escape where heritage, comfort and breathtaking scenery come together. Arranged across two floors, the property is centred around a stunning first floor sitting room with pine-panelled ceilings, plantation shutters, coastal inspired interiors and a cosy wood burning stove. Large windows frame endless sea views, while doors open directly onto a sea facing balcony – the perfect spot for morning coffee, sunset drinks or simply watching the ever changing seascape. Upstairs, two comfortable bedrooms and a family bathroom provide a peaceful retreat, while the well equipped kitchen and utility room ensure everything needed for holiday cooking and a truly relaxing stay. Just moments from the famous South Foreland Lighthouse and surrounded by spectacular clifftop walking routes, Pip’s Lookout sits in an enviable position above St Margaret’s Bay. A beautiful walk along the White Cliffs leads directly down to the beach below, where visitors can enjoy the bay’s charming shoreline and clear waters. From sunrise to sunset, the ever-changing light across the Channel creates a truly magical backdrop. Perfectly placed for exploring Kent’s coast, guests can discover the creative, arty and classic British seaside towns of Folkestone, Deal, Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. The historic Cathedral city of Canterbury is on 30 minutes by car. For an extra special adventure, a ferry crossing from Dover makes for an unforgettable day trip across the Channel. Whether you’re seeking invigorating coastal walks, cosy evenings by the fire, fascinating history or simply a place to switch off and absorb the views, Pip’s Lookout offers an unforgettable stay in one of England’s most remarkable coastal settings.
