Bike, walk, or car to town and attractions. The Hyannis airport is just 15-20 mins away. Logan Airport in Boston is 1 hr 15 mins away depending upon the traffic. There is a bus out of Hyannis that goes to Logan airport and most use it instead of driving.

Osterville's business district includes a public library, gift stores, women's fashions, restaurants, a small market, banks with ATMs, a pizza place, package store (spirits), a U.S. Post Office, a hardware store, art galleries, barber and beauty shops, and real estate brokers. During July and August, Osterville's population swells due to seasonal residents. Many summer residents maintain a second house in Osterville while residing most of the year in the Greater Boston area. The village is known for its oceanfront estates in the Wianno section of town. The cemetery for the village of Osterville is the Hillside Cemetery on Old Mill Road. The Osterville Historical Museum, established in 1931, preserves the history of Osterville for all of those who love her, past, present, and future. The museum includes the largest collection of wooden boats in Massachusetts and is home to the Crosby Boats. The Crosbys are America's oldest, currently active, wooden boat building family. The Cammett House, the oldest house in Osterville, and the Captain Jonathan Parker House, owned by a 1820s coastal schooner captain, are also located on the museum campus. A series of boat shops includes the 1850 original Herbert F. Crosby boat shop. Every Friday mid-June to mid-September, the museum hosts the Osterville Farmers' Market.[1] Armstrong-Kelley Park, the oldest and largest privately owned park on Cape Cod, is located in Osterville. Crosby Boat Yard is port to the Crosby catboat, and the Wianno senior, the latter a favorite of nearby Hyannisport resident President John F. Kennedy. A steel drawbridge connects the village to Little Island and Grand Island (also known as Oyster Harbors), a gated community featuring many luxury houses and a private country club. The neighborhood of Wianno abuts the East Bay section of Osterville. There are two private country clubs in Osterville: The Wianno Club and the Oyster Harbors Club. Each club has a private 18 hole golf course, private tennis facilities, and a private beach. The Wianno Yacht Club, a private club on West Bay, offers children's sailing lessons. Dowses Beach in Osterville is a town of Barnstable beach, there are toilet facilities with showers and a beach house for changing in privacy. Lifeguards are present during the summer months only.

Great family property
Very clean, Carole was lovely— available but not at all intrusive. Lake is great for kids. Beach access a close drive and waves are quite tame so also good for kids. Plenty of room for our 2 families (4 adults and 5 kids total).

Great for our first Cape Cod visit!
Ivy Woods is a charming home with a beautiful water view. The VRBO page describes it as a pond but we would say it’s much more like a smaller lake which, for our teenagers, was the biggest appeal. They enjoyed many hours together on the SUP, kayak, etc. For the house - we’re from a part of the country where there are lots of vacation rental homes built to be vacation rentals. Ivy Woods isn’t one of those so you have to go in knowing you’ll very much feel like you’re staying in someone’s home (lots of family photos, cozy decor, older/smaller bathrooms etc). There were plenty of small rooms for us to spread out in & we didn’t feel cramped. The appliances weren’t the latest technology but worked fine for us (once we watched a youtube video on the coffeemaker, lol). The kitchen was well stocked. There were zip ties on many of the cabinets which was a little unappealing but not a huge deal. The wifi worked great. A previous reviewer mentioned the owner, Carole…and if she’s in town, you will likely see her in the garden as she stays in a small house next door. We enjoyed talking to & getting to know her and she left us several very thoughtful gifts including garden goodies. We never felt like she was intruding. We did have to drive most anywhere we wanted to go and the road around the house didn’t seem the best for walking/biking but that was totally fine. I do wish I’d read the fine print better on one thing - one of the ‘king sized’ beds is actually a twin day bed with a pullout trundle (that is clarified in the descriptions of the beds). For a middle aged couple, that doesn’t really function well as a king so we just pulled the 2 twins apart and it was fine. All the mattresses were comfy though! We never did get the back tv/dvd to work and would have liked to have a larger tv in the main living room. Locally, we ate at Crisp & Wimpys and both were very good. We got seafood takeout from the ‘market’ by the 7 Eleven and it was also really good! We made lots of day trips & thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Cape Cod. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and already miss the comfortable temps, time together talking on the porch, nightly ice cream runs and beautiful views of Ivy Woods!

Family vacation
The location was very nice, the pond was pretty and bug enough for a short paddle around and a good temperature and water quality to swim. The town of Osterville is picture perfect and within about 3/4 mile - walkable. the ocean beach is not walkable but nice, The house would be good if some amenities were undated, the kitchen appliance and hardware are very old and some didn't work, the beds were adequate and some uncomfortable. there were too many locked cabinets and too much clutter. The real issue was the owner and that the property was a double lot with multiple tenants on it which was not how it is described on VRBO. The owner, or property manager, Carole told us there was a gardner but not that she was staying in an apartment on the side of the cottage did the gardening. I met her in person after seeing her out the master bedroom window. I introduced myself and had to ask her who she was and she still didn't tell me she was staying in the apartment. It was very strange and since I didn't know she was staying in the apartment I didn't know I could simply knock on her door if we needed something. There were other communications from her which I also found to be unusual. She made the stay awkward.

Newly Retired and looking to rent our beautiful rustic family waterfront home to other wonderful families. The waterfront property is an old fashioned Lodge and compound. I am purposely keeping it natural and not manicured. There are birds, squirrels, and ducks which visit each morning while you have your coffee and I personally tend the organic garden for the summer.

Why they chose this property

Our home was originally built in 1914.

What makes this property unique

Nearby:
Craigville Beach is located on Nantucket Sound. It is extremely popular with younger visitors as it has ice cream, food services, bathroom and shower facilities. It is located in Centerville which is just 2 miles from the house and is a very popular tourist hot spot on Cape Cod. Unlike many private Cape beaches which offer parking to residents only, Craigville is a public beach area, available to non-residents for a daily parking fee. In the summer, Kite surfing and shell hunting is extremely popular. You will receive a parking pass to access the beaches and park for free.

Skunknett River Wildlife Sanctuary - Mass Audubon
Walking the tree-lined trails at Skunknett River, you can witness nature reclaiming former mill sites and explore a fragrant Atlantic White Cedar swamp. The name Skunknett comes from an Algonquin word that means a fishing place for eel; American eels may be seen in the sanctuary's waterways.
